I am so hormonally cranky/ragey/short tempered, and I hate it. I was hoping for just one bad day & then it would pass but no such luck. At least the weather is nice.
G told me when he’s cranky he likes to blow bubbles, so we’ve been on the back patio while he blows bubbles and I fold laundry. Then he found a can of silly string in a box inside and brought it out to me, so he’s loving that.

Judging from my allergies today, I think spring has finally arrived in NJ. I've been taking Zyrtec and using a nasal spray for weeks but its still pretty bad today.
Now that the weather is finally getting nice we really need to get our yard sprayed. We haven't done that before and I'm not really a fan of the idea of treating the backyard with a bunch of chemicals both because of the potential environmental impact and out of concern for kids and our dog but when we were out over the weekend there were so many ticks. I think we spotted 6 in total. Luckily none of them had bitten before we spotted them but I'm nervous about using the yard until we get that addressed.
Today has been nice. The boys are currently napping so I goofed off for a bit then mowed the front lawn. Now I'm going to do some work in the laundry room. Dinner is in the crock pot so set there.
lilyelayne how long till your due date? Sorry your hormones are against you, hope they chill soon.

dmorgendorffer we get the yard sprayed now. After dealing with the ticks last year (dog and me) there's no way I couldn't try everything to keep them away/off my children. I hope it works this year. I am so scared of them that it is kind of ruining my like for the outdoors. I spray the girls every time they play outside too. lilyelayne I'm sorry you are cranky but you are so close that is is justified! Hang in there! G sounds so sweet! mishka29 my 'hanger' could never have stood for a 10pm dinner time. I also hate trying to coordinate meals with friends bc I am usually the early eater (5pm sometimes earlier if dinner is ready and H is home). I need digestion time!
Today started out great. We went to my local wildlife preserve with my parents. We saw them hand feeding baby squirrels - cuteness overload. Then we out to lunch. Then A puked at lunch. All over herself and the table and the booth and the floor. That was fun. And since switching cars I have not put the clothes backup back in the trunk. I had pants but no top so I gave her my hoodie to wrap around her and we went straight home. She seems fine. I think it was either her chugging chocolate milk. Or sensitive gag reflex mixed with a cough. I'm thankful it wasn't in the new van!!!
Ps: my allergies have been bad to. We all are feeling it. I think that might be A's cough during the night - I've been giving her benedry before bed and it stops it.
Well my side dish crockpot glitched out and hasn't been on for the past two hours. So now I'm scrabbling for dinner again. But I should be able to find something easy to go with the ham.
dreemkin that's rough, but like you said, at least not in the van. Hope is doesn't return!

dreemkin what spray do you use? Has it worked and does it make you feel gross when you have it on? We do bath time every other night and I really don't want to have to make it every night but I think every time they have bug spray on it's needed.
OFF deep woods. I am finishing up some from last year that does make you feel gross haha. The kid don't seem to mind. But I bought OFF deep wood Dry this year hoping that will help. I also don't do baths every night. But I'm starting to think with that and sunscreen on, we might have to do quick rinses for them this year. We will see. Usually the spray seems to "disappear" after a while. I don't know if it works for ticks as I just started using it religiously this year for that. I'm hoping it will but it doesn't really seem great against mosquitos as my girls still will get bit in the bad months. Ugh!

Deep woods off (dry or original) is one of the only sprays I trust for ticks. I like the dry it does feel better on. As for the kids I try to spray their shoes/ socks and clothes mostly but yeah it's generally gone by the time bath time rolls around so I don't fret about them too much if we skip baths. I do try to bathe every other day in the summer though because they do just get so dirty!
No I don't, sorry. Our yard service does it. They do multiple applications throughout the year. We started later last year after seeing a few ticks in summer so we didn't get the full cycle. They already sprayed once this year. I'm hoping this year we will really see the difference. See = not see (the ticks haha).

dreemkin do you know what they are spraying the yard with?
Cool gotcha. This was just discussed on my vet group and the use of fipronil (active ingredient in Frontline) for yard management so it made me curious and interested in knowing how it goes.
aggiebug that's funny because I always scoff that dogs can be medicinally protected proactively but people can't ... wtf is wrong with that?! Actually that goes for a couple things for dogs. Geesh
H comes home tonight. I don't know how he manages to get DS out of the house on the mornings I go to work early. He does have the advantage of not trying to smear DS with sunscreen while wearing his work clothes. DS seems more chill for him in general than for me.

aggiebug we got a quote today to have our yard sprayed, we opted to go with an organic spray. They said it is cedar oil which is very effective but needs to be reapplied often so they’ll be coming back to spray monthly. Hopefully it’s worth it.

Haha well it generally has to do with the fact that they aren't bathed often when it comes to tick and flea prevention, but this conversation included ineffective product on dogs with dry skin which had never occurred to me but I never lived in an area that is super dry and less oil in the skin. Who knew! In that case spraying the yard is very different and should work, I'm wondering about longevity in the environment though.

Doesn't shock me that it has to be reapplied often it's likely washed away after any rainfall.

I should look into this. H sprays our yard but you then need to hose everything off 2 days later. PITA to do with a 3 year old who doesn't get why he can't go play in the yard.

I ordered tick tubes off amazon today too. I hope its not too late to put them out and they are actually effective. They came to spray yesterday and I found a tick on me last night. We definitely did not have so many last year, I wonder if the lawn service the previous owners used were putting something out. I'm so paranoid about using the yard now.
