Choosing a middle name for 'Abigail'

I had my first official ultrasound scheduled today with my new midwife, but it got canceled because of our snowstorm.  

I know it's early and this is random but I'm spending this cold, snowy winter day thinking of baby girl names. We are currently Team Green. We were with Anne, as well.  We already have a boy name from our last pregnancy.

Girl names are tougher. We had trouble picking Anne's name. ANNE is a biblical  name and my middle name. Her middle name is also biblical and is the feminine for of Dh's middle name.

Now, for the question, help me fall in love with a middle name for baby #4.

We wanted to stick with the biblical theme and names that with A.  We like ABIGAIL for a first name but I'm not a huge fan of the nickname  'Abby.'  Abigail is Hebrew and means 'the father's joy'.

The middle names we like so far:

Abigail Joy -- name would be double joy

Abigail  Iris -- iris means rainbow.

Abigail Moira - Moira (pronounced 'moyra') is a former of Mary and is a family name

Moira is DH'S favorite but I'm not sure what I think of both girl having the same initials.

Abigail Iris is lovely. I would nix Abigail Joy. Too much Joy.

I like Abigail Iris or Abigail Moira. My kids sharing initials wouldn't bother me. I think no one will notice that but you. I agree with helena about Abigail Joy being a little too much.

Another vote for Abigail Iris. I like Moira but not with Abigail.

I guess Abigail Iris, but I really don't like the same initial theme. There are plenty of gorgeous biblical names without sticking to one letter.

I guess we have some time to think. We didn't decide on Anne's name until 2 days before she was born.

I love Abigail Moira. I don't think it's a big deal that they have the same initials. My nieces and nephew are all BAW and they didn't notice until years later lol it might be different if the names could be nicknames(cj, mj). You won't be calling either AM.

If you don't like Abby you could call her Gail instead. I know a Gail personally and she is one of the sweetest and strongest women I've ever met. She's survived breast cancer twice, raised two amazing daughters (helped one through a severe illness and another through a divorce with an abusive husband), and is a wonderful grandmother and friend. 

I think having two girls with the same initials is very cute. You would not be the first! Plus if you have any monogrammed outfits (or other stuff) then little sister could wear the hand-me-downs!

I like Abigail Iris better than Abigail Moira. I know a baby named Abigail Katherine and I think that is nice as well. The only other biblical girl A name I can think of off the top of my head is Acacia (as in the tree) used by my cousin who likes unusual Biblical names.

I love Moira... also I am weird that I think matching initials are nice, and could be useful (clothes, bags, etc monogrammed)

I really like Abigail Moira. I like the name Moira even though I could never use it; sounds silly with our last name IMO.


I have to say I LOVE Anne as a first name!! It's so refreshing.

I hate the matchy initials thing. Iris is the best mn by far.
