Ran to three stores this morning, including grocery shopping. I'm making a new recipe for dinner - slow cooker chinese chicken and brocolli. I'm not real confident about it. I always expect things like this to taste like carry-out and then get disappointed when they don't.
dreemkin I’m often disappointed in Chinese recipes because Chinese take out is usually fried chicken and the at home versions aren’t, so there’s little or no crunch compared to take out.
I like damndelicious.net for, well everything, but Asian cuisine particularly. No it's not fried but it does have good flavor. If you want real real Chinese takeout flavor get thee some msg to add to your dishes though that is the real trick;). Not kidding really you can get it on Amazon or Asian markets, I bet it will make the difference and no it's not as terrible as many make you think it I. I am not a big salt person and, just like salt, I have found I am ok without the msg, but I know that is a big part of Asian cuisine and a flavor enhancer but you won't ever see it in a recipe because it has an undeserved bad reputation.
So the chicken came out well but it just ain't take out 😉 Eta: has anyone cooked with peanut oil? Or have a wok. I think that might be my problem. But in that case, I'll happily order from time to time from the lady that calls us sweetie!

I have a wok it takes up a lot of space and I think my other nonstick is just as effective honestly. I haven't used peanut oil but do use sesame oil most often when cooking Asian cuisine. Seriously msg I'm not even kidding. Just a dash.
