Holy moly how is August basically over? This is crazy cakes.
We have some nasty thunderstorms right now. Ended up surprising us while we were at a park so we ducked back to our car asap. Had to take H to work after that ( he had a Dr appointment and couldn't drive). Now we are home and I am letting tv entertain. Rainy days are good for snuggles on the couch. Hopefully it's a good week for everyone.

Our pest control guy made it today so I hope that is the end of the ants!! He found a massive ant bed under the bushes in front of our kitchen window.
Got a phone date in the morning with my childhood bestie; I’m excited about that.
Great report from G’s teachers today. He’s starting to read some; I’ve noticed it at home too. Apparently he was teaching one of the language lessons today to a couple of the new kids in class, and that prompted his teachers to show him more advanced language work.

Wow that’s awesome! (the reading, not the ants)
Dh got offered the job! Hopefully he can negotiate a slightly higher salary to make up for the 9 grand bonus that is lost at this point. Having just finished the basement a few months ago it would be nice to get the savings up. But this will be a good move in the long run for him.
lilyelayne that's exciting. A is starting to know simple words probably just by sight. G sounds like a smarty! Hope your ants get taken care of for good. mishka29 good for him! Hope he can negotiate that extra amount. Sign on bonus?
Gatsby is still not cleared up...scheduled an xray for tomorrow. Grrr! They're not really sure what the problem could be. His kidney panel was good...
Tonight is N's curriculum night at school. My sis may come watch the girls or we will just take them. This week is H's birthday so today I had to go to two grocery stores in order to get all the ingredients for his birthday treat which I'm making tomorrow (we are celebrating his birthday then for scheduling purposes). Costco just doesn't sell everything unfortunately.
dreemkin ugh poor Gatsby. Is this the first x-ray? If they don't see anything I would ask for an ultrasound. X-rays are good for seeing most stones but ultrasound is better to see other types, masses and like clots that stick around and keep causing infections. If it's all clear I would get off abx for a week then do a culture and sensitivity. I know you trust your vet so not trying to step on toes but sometimes it's also nice to know what might happen and have a different thought process. Obviously I have never seen Gatsby so there is a lot I can miss just on here .
aggiebug that helps a lot, thanks! I actually don't have a ton of faith in his vets anymore because there's been a lot of turn around in their practice lately. I am pretty disgusted in all this tbh. This will be his second xray (he had tiny stones before that they said shouldn't be a problem; nothing blocking anything etc). I didnt want to ask you for advice because I don't want to bother you and impose. I really appreciate the advice you offered and I will keep it in mind!

I really appreciate you respecting that but feel free to ask me. If I say I can't help you I know you will listen. If he has small stones have they changed his diet to disolve them? He will keep having infections if they don't get rid of stones they can see on x-ray. (Many get stones because of infection but those are too small to see on x-ray.
N's curriculum night went well yesterday! Her teacher seems amazing. I like her style and positivity. They also have a lot of TAs (and the like) helping this year, getting some great differentiated engagement time.
Gatsby still has bladder stones. He has been on the special food to try and dissolve them but I guess it didn't work. They (like 5 or 6) looked all clumped together on the xray. So we scheduled surgery for next week. They will also analyze the stones to see what type they are. Dang it! I figured we were headed towards surgery though so at least it's not a surprise. Thanks again to aggiebug for advice and easying my mind with all this!
Today A had her totschool orientation. Unfort her favorite teacher moved to a different program there but she has lots of friends still in her class so that's nice to see. Her new teachers (3) still seem lovely too.
Tonight we are having H's birthday dinner out. No cooking for me! I did however make layer pumpkin cheesecake bars which are cooling now. I managed to fit everything in today. Hopefully I can wrap H's presents today after picking up N.
PS: DH loves fall treats so his birthday is when we kick off the fall season (a smidge early)!
lilyelayne that's exciting. A is starting to know simple words probably just by sight.
He’s getting the beginning sounds of words & then guessing based on context clues. Like we had a can that said “wasp & hornet spray” and he knew what we used it for, so he stared at it a while and asked if it said “wasp & home spray.” Or he was playing a game on the iPad & I overheard him talking to himself about how to navigate back to the part he wanted & he said “now I press ‘correct’” but the word is actually continue.
It’s super neat to see the phonics approach to letter learning actually work the way it’s supposed to!
I don’t think I’ll get to it this week, but a toy purge is on my to do while G is at school list. Seems like I’ve had errands to run every morning this week, this one included. I’ve got an overdue grocery pick up scheduled 😅 we had to have frozen pizza for lunch yesterday because it was the only food left! He told me before work DH made a huge sandwich with all the sandwich meat “and I’m really glad we hid this pizza from him or he would’ve eaten it too!” 😂 there was hardly any meat left, goofy kid.
dreemkin hope the surgery fixes all Gatsby’s problems!
We went Mexican for dinner which the rest of us don't really like but I had a delicious mango marg and H got the flight. And then my dessert came out well! DH loved it! Today is his actual bday but he has a coworker going away dinner tonight. So we'll probably just have egg sandwiches since the girls didn't seemed thrilled about my baked chicken sandwich idea.
Today N has off and H took off. We are going to a concert again at Ravinia. I made a Mediterranean hummus dip and a charcuterie board for our picnic. This time we are seeing OAR which is one of H's favorites. American authors is opening for them. My parents committed to watching the girls months ago and now aren't able to. So the girls are going to a neighbor friend's house for a few hours until my sis can pick them up. This is the first time non-family will be watching them. This has been Norah's best friend since before totschool though so we know the family fairly well from seeing them during drops offs and around the neighborhood.
Been a busy couple days. Late night at Ravinia for the concert. It was a lot of fun. Then we were up early yesterday and on the road to our family lake house in WI. The girls fished with daddy and auntie/nephew. Had fun with family and enjoyed a lovely day sitting by the lake. However, I'm glad to not be part of the ownership and therefore maintenance of the near 100 year old cottage. While there are many wonderful memories there that have spanned generations, sometimes it's a sh*t show getting everyone to agree and get along and do their part. During some of that talk (as there were three owners there at the time) I whispered happily to H that our lake house is Disney's Polynesian resort (and they handle all the maintenance and upgrades)! Today we are going to relax and put up fall decorations.
