I feel so much better now guys! Thanks for telling me it wasn't a flame worthy confession because I was feeling like a slacker FTM... Now I don't feel guilty about my "dirty" baby lol

Ever since DD got sick last week bedtime has been a struggle. I try to have her fall asleep in her bed with me sitting next to her, but she just ends up in tears. Last night DH took over for me and the same thing happened. My confession is we've taken DD on a car ride at bedtime to get her to fall asleep almost every night this week because I don't know what else to do. I think she is scared of falling asleep at bedtime because last week when she did she woke up coughing so hard and throwing up. If that makes any senses...

the dr. Sears book says most people over bathe their infants. We did it the bare minimum because it is kind of stressful and not that fun to bathe an infant.
Bath time has always been DHs thing while bedtime is mine. I hate giving baths...the stooping into the tub, making sure she doesn't drown, etc etc... I feel it will be much more fun when she's out of the infant tub and sitting up in the real tub.
helenahhandbasket That would frustrate me so much! Seriously to the point where I might consider telling a boss or HR. And seriously shame on her doctor for writing her that note. If I had ever asked my OB to write me a note saying I needed to be on BEDREST just because I didn't like my commute he would have laughed in my face.
Also, DH leaves for work at 6am and when I was in school I usually had to leave at 5am. Daycare opened at 730. You fucking figure it out and make it work. You don't get to have a super speshul schedule because you want to. It's called being an adult!
I'm pretty sure mine would have done it for me in a heartbeat but, then again, I had spent 7 months sleeping next to a toilet so it was plausible for me but he was always kind of willing to write me whatever I needed. For the record, I didn't ever take any more time off than I needed.
That being said, if you want to game the system, I'm fine with it but OMFG, don't let me know you're doing it and don't be publicly obvious about it. At that point, I'm more annoyed at you for just being stupid. If you're going to tell a lie, own it to the end. In the great words of George Costanza: "It's not a lie if YOU believe it."

Aww, yes that makes sense, poor baby. You do what you gotta do for now, I'm sure shell transition back to normal soon.

Not the least bit flameful to me. I've done this for naps for the last 2 years just because it's the only thing that works. I'd rather drive him around for 15 minutes than fight for 3 hours. He's pretty much done napping now but, when he does, it still mostly only happens in the car. If we have a big, busy day, he'll fight it and then crash on the couch at like 5 p.m. but that's the only in-house napping we ever do.
DS hasn't had a actual bath yet.... He is 5 weeks old. I kinda don't feel bad about it; what does a baby do to get dirty? (FWIW He doesn't spit up and we use cloth wipes on him.)
No flames from me. Overbathing can be irritating to their skin! DS is 2 and only showers with me twice a week in the winter so his skin doesn't dry out. I only throw him in the tub if he gets exceptionally dirty like pasta sauce in his hair or diaper blow out otherwise I just wipe him down!

On the cold weather subject - when I lived in the middle if Alaska all anyone would talk about for about the 6 months of winter was how cold it was. Um, yes. It's Alaska. It gets down to -40 or colder a couple times a year for a couple of weeks. This happens every single year. It's normal. It would be talk worthy if it didn't happen. I don't miss all the weather talk. Whenever I see one of Alaska friends post the temperature on FB, I hide the post.
I'd see the birds fly south beginning in August and always thought that the birds were far smarter than me, leaving for the winter.
So I guess that's my FFFC? I was dumber than a bird for 14 years.

Wow-- I am fascinated by Alaska! Did you grow up there? Was it for work? I am so intrigued.
ok, i have a throwback confession after looking through some old photos.
i had a destination wedding where only 30 people were invited. i totally added people to the shower who weren't invited to the wedding (coworkers and my best friend's moms). ::insert emily post's shock face::

helenahhandbasket - I transferred up there to their university after my first year of college in Colorado. It was about the same price as the university I was going to here in Colorado and I had some hardcore wanderlust going so my parents indulged me. And then I graduated, started grad school, got a job, got married to the ex-husband, got some cats, bought a house...and before I knew it 14 years had gone by.

Ha!
This was sort of my deal too, but I did wind up having a large reception 6 weeks after my Vegas wedding (at my mom's insistance).

My cousins lived on Kodiak island for 4 years and the oldest left kicking and screaming lol. She even like the winter there more than Virginia where she is now. I'm also adding she's a freak lol. It was beautiful in the summer when I was there tho. That's where if like a vacation home lol
It's 39 degrees right now in Florida. I'm complaining. I'm used to a mild 55 to 60 degree "winter."
Yes. I'm used to a winter that's maybe 45° at the worst. While I lived in New England I couldn't believe how cold it would get. <---------- is a wuss.
Yeah, bump that noise. We left Buffalo in '92 for almost the exclusive reason that it's too freaking cold. I can't hang. Anything lower than 50 and I'm a baby.

I was going to second this because I was freakin' freezing this morning. We have a two story town house with very high ceilings on the first floor so the heat only warms the upstairs. The downstairs is always super cold. It was like 33 degrees this morning. BRRRRR.
Oh, here is a FFFC bouncing off of the OAD random thought of the day. When I was in a class in graduate school, there was a guest speaker on attachment and she said that to assure healthy attachment, to have your kids no less than three years apart. So when DD was younger and I was getting pressure for another, I would throw this factoid out there, even if that person had kids less than three years apart already. I knew that it would cut a little bit at them, but I didn't care because they shouldn't be asking the question in the first place! BOOM

I want to cooter punch the asshole that was supposed to come for the showing. They cancelled 5 minutes before they were scheduled to show, and it was because they "weren't interested." Then don't schedule a showing in the first place, make me bust my ass to make the house look amazing, and drag my kid out in this extreme cold, fuckwit.

TheEleventhHour, thanks. Our realtors not happy either. It's just basic courtesy not to do this last minute. If they had cancelled yesterday, it wouldn't have been an issue. Even early this morning it would've been ok. But what they pulled is beyond rude and inconsiderate.
Idk what it is with our house attracting scummy asshats, but that seems to be the only thing moving to this stupid town right now.

Sorry, BostonKisses. So many people seem to be very self centered when looking at houses. I have had no-shows (thankfully not with a LO in crazy cold weather - that would make me extra angry). The people who bought our old house made a series of ridiculous and highly self-centered requests throughout the negotiation process to try to get our house for a steal. Each one made me more and more angry that I was actually less flexible with the price instead of more (good thing too as they had delay after delay that put the closing several months after it was agreed upon). As much as I can't wait to sell my house so LO and I can rejoin life with MH, I am not looking forward to dealing with all of that. I am making sure our agent doesn't let people know MH is moved already so that people don't get the idea we are desperate and try to low-ball us.
