We are due with our first baby girl in July! We can't decide on a first name. Her middle name will en Rae, after my sister. I like feminine names and names that are "classic", even if that means common/popular. I also like nicknames. So here we go - opinions please and suggestions if you don't like any! Although I've been through a million baby names and feel like this is pretty narrowed down.
Our front runner - Elisabeth (nn Ellie) Eloise (nn Ellie) - it would take some convincing to get DH on board with this. With either Elisabeth or Eloise we would call her Ellie 99% of the time, we just want an option for something more grown up.
Emma - DH likes, I don't because it doesn't have a nickname Sophia Charlotte - nn Charlie, my husbands MN is Charles Evelyn Amelia Ava Sidney - DH suggested, I don't love
I love Elisabeth but just feel like there are sooooo many better options when it comes to a nick name and Ellie is so overdone.
I love Charlotte but can't get behind the nn Charlie. I would prefer Lottie.
Amelia is nice.
Evelyn, Ava and Sidney I would toss.
Despite popularity Sofia/Sophia is just so classic and beautiful so it's my vote. However with different nicknames Elisabeth and Charlotte would be tied up there for my pick.
Other than Sidney (a masculine name), you have a nice list. I love Elisabeth nn Betsy and Eloise, though I'm not a fan of Ellie. Sophia, Charlotte, and Amelia are also great even though they are popular. I think Elisabeth gets my vote, but not Ellie.
Elisabeth (nn Ellie) - I've literally never heard of Ellie as a nickname for Elizabeth before all this "Ellie" craze started. I honestly don't get it. I don't say elle-izabeth, I say uh-lizabeth.
Eloise (nn Ellie) - it would take some convincing to get DH on board with this. With either Elisabeth or Eloise we would call her Ellie 99% of the time, we just want an option for something more grown up. Eloise, nickname Ellie is fine.
Emma - DH likes, I don't because it doesn't have a nickname - too popular
Sophia - too popular
Charlotte - nn Charlie, my husbands MN is Charles - loathe the nickname Charlie on a girl; like I have physical reaction to it.
Evelyn - too popular Amelia - too popular Ava - too popular Sidney - DH suggested, I don't love - Sydney is better for a female

Can't go wrong with Elisabeth! I like Idani's nn suggestions. There really are a ton! Betty is adorbs.
ETA: In light of joy's above post, I just needed to add that even though Sophia and Emma are classic solid names... I can't freaking stand them anymore:( just way too popular IMO

Evelyn or Amelia, especially if you don't mind a currently popular yet classically beautiful name. Eve, Evvie, Lynn, Lynnie, I feel like a "nickname" rarely gets written out and the sound is more important, so Im having a hard time spelling what I would consider cute littlw nicknames for Amelia. Personally I don't think it needs one and is perfect as it, but would probably end up calling her something short/cute while she's litte. I had a dear friend Camille who we always called "Meelie" (the best I can figure how to spell it) but again, a nickname is not always something that really ends up getting written out a whole lot.
(most of) Your choices are beautiful here is my order: Charlotte, Elisabeth (I'm partial to other spelling), Amelia, then Ava. Eloise is not as pretty to me and Sydney doesn't come close. Sophia and Emma are neither one a favorite of mine due to it's top #? use.
I do not though like the idea of picking a name based on a nickname. I just do not understand placing importance of that above the given name. I like the idea of nicknames evolving and forming naturally as the child ages, etc.
I agree with Idani that "Ellie" as a nickname is a bad idea, especially for Elizabeth. It would be better to give your DD a less trendy nickname.
Most of your name choices are way too popular for my taste. There are plenty of classic names that fall outside of the top 20. I guess if I had to choose from your list I would pick Elizabeth.

Elisabeth (nn Ellie)- Love, but not with the nn Ellie. There are a billion Ellies running around. Betty, Betsy, or Birdie would be much better. Eloise (nn Ellie) - Love, but again, not with Ellie. Elsie would be much more unexpected.
Emma - Like, but it's a bit boring. And all names don't need a nn... Sophia- Love Charlotte - nn Charlie, my husbands MN is Charles- Love, but absolutely NOT with the nn Charlie. Charlie is a boy name. Call her Lottie if you are hung up on this nn thing. Evelyn- Meh. I know several under age of 5. Evangeline is a fantastic alternative. Amelia- Love. Ava- Meh. It's pretty, but boring. Sidney - Yeah, just toss this boy name out right now.

Thanks in advance!
Elizabeth - nn Lizzy Emma - nn Em (this is what my sister calls her little girl, super cute)
I love Elisabeth but agree that Ellie is so boring. There's already a couple Ellie's on our BMB. I prefer Elisabeth to Eloise. I really love Libby as a nn.
I love Charlotte but not Charlie. I love Emma, Amelia, and Sophia even though they're popular.
