How many ounces per day does your LO take? The LC I've been working with (she's a pediatrician, but not our pediatrician) is dead set on a baby taking 30oz/day, exactly. Kellymom and other sources give a much broader range, and I can't imagine every baby takes exactly 30oz - Miles never has. So, what is your LO's average and/or range?
let's see....yesterday he drank 7 4oz bottles and 2 5oz bottles, for a total of 38 oz. He's underweight by quite a bit so we basically operate under the assumption that ANY time he fusses or cries he is hungry. Our doc knows and is happy with that plan, though she and the LC are always a little surprised by the amount he puts away, but he is really long.
the day before yesterday he ate 7 4oz bottles and 1 5oz bottle, so 33oz. He really alternates every other day on this range. I'm actually contemplating going up from 4oz bottles as the standard to 4.25 or even 4.5oz bottles, because he's begun screaming after his 4oz are over. Hungry effing baby (the 5oz bottles are formula, I only can pump 29-34 oz per day).
My girl takes 5 6oz bottles throughout the day and none at night she's 10 weeks. Screw what "they" say honestly, if i listened to books and websites I'd be dealing with a hungry screaming baby since 3 weeks. She's always wanted to eat more than normal and shows me when she's full. Sometimes she'll only take 4 or 5 oz at a time but mostly its 6oz
Thanks, ladies. Since I've reintroduced the boob, I don't think LO is getting enough. I don't know exactly what he is getting from the boob, but he's been averaging about 18 oz from the bottle, so I imagine he's only in the low 20s for oz the past few days, which is less than what he'd been getting. I rented the Medela scale LCs use for weighted feeds to monitor him at home. I'm so worried he's not getting enough. I give him the bottle after each time at the boob, but he gets tired at the boob, so I think he's not eating what he should. Last night he was a hot mess, and even though he was refusing the bottle, I think it was hunger - like, HANGRY beyond the point of no return. I mostly stuck with the bottle today to monitor more closely. My scale arrived tonight, and I'm curious what tomorrow will show.

My Ped suggested that 28-32 would be a usual range for my baby at 8-12 weeks. That said, he didn't seem particularly alarmed by the prospect of her eating a little less sometimes, either. We're in that range most days.

My guy takes more like 24 or 26 oz. most days, but when he's growing or has a cold it's more like 30. Sucks cause 30 is more than I can pump most days.
god it sounds like I've got an oinker. which worries me because he's so thin. I've been noticing some mucous in his poo, just little bits, but I think I'm going to call the doc monday. I'm worried about c diff since he spent time in the nursery immediately after birth for antibiotics.

Our guy was eating 5 times a day, 6oz bottles each time (we have to supplement so every other bottle is breast/formula), for a total of 30. Since we started sleep training and he sleeps for 12 hours, he does four 7oz bottles throughout the day, for a total of 28. Sometimes he wakes up hungry around 3-4am and we do a small 2oz snack, sometimes he doesn't. We've been considering upping the 4 day feedings to 8oz for a total of 32oz and will probably try that in the next couple of weeks (LO is almost 10 weeks). He's consistently in the 95+ percentile for height but only in the 70ish percentile for weight, so it sounds like he's getting a lot but he's not a chunker (though I wouldn't mind a little chub!).

Is this 6oz bottles of BM or formula?? Just curious. My LO is 10 weeks also and he's still drinking 3oz with a 5oz bottle before bed (all BM).. pedi told me he should still be drinking 2-3oz and anything more was overfeeding him.. but he is now only in 5th percentile for weight and he's been fussing when I take the empty bottle away so yesterday I upped him to 4oz and he tolerated them all very well.

My LO also takes 6 bottles a day 4oz each of BM. She is at the bottom of the scale for weight (3rd percentile) and our pedi is fine with it. My husband and I are both thin and we're always at the bottom of the growth scale as well so it is where we expected her to be. She eats every 3ish hours, sometimes longer sometimes shorter. She goes longer during the night and only wakes up once.
