After my ectopic surgery, I started a fever. The fever continued for two weeks. I've been exhausted and just felt like crap. During those two weeks, I went to my OB for a round if tests then to my PCP for three visits for tons of tests. OB found nothing to do with the surgery. PCP determined I tested positive for two major viruses and my liver had been affected. She referred me to Infectious diseases to figure me out.
I went to Infectious Diseases Specialist yesterday. He's got it narrowed down to two viruses: EBV (aka "mono") and CMV (pretty much mono without the sore throat). He suspects CMV over EBV since I don't have the sore throat. I was sent for bloodwork which should give a definitive answer within a week. Both viruses affect the liver but not in a scary way.
There's really no treatment either way, but knowing which I have just provides some info.
So, while this dr didn't want to go into the what-ifs, pretty much if I were still pregnant, the CMV would have been life-threatening to the baby. We have to make sure we don't get pregnant again while I still have CMV active in my body because of all the problems it can cause.
So, now we just wait. I should have the results of this testing in by my follow-up for ectopic with OB next week. I'll be talking CMV with OB and how to proceed with thinking about baby #3.
I'm kinda a mess with the what-ifs. I know what's done is done, but I just haven't had a second to mourn my loss anyways.
I returned to work today since it was a half-day of work (half activities for the students), so it was a light, easy day, and my assistant was there to help. It wasn't ideal, but I was fever-free and this guaranteed I'll get paid for Feb vacation next week since I'm getting docked most of the month's pay anyway. I'll be writing a pathetic letter to the sick-bank committee to see about getting some of the sick time covered.
Okay, thanks for reading if you got this far! You ladies rock!

Tldr: I've been really sick since my ectopic surgery, and I prob have CMV.
