Has anyone used toddler formula? Our doctor wants to keep Owen on formula for awhile yet so we transitioned from the infant formula to toddler formula. As I've mixed it today it seems really grainy and is leaving a film on the bottles. We usually use cold water so I tried warming it up and didn't see a difference. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

From what I know about toddler formula, it is essentially the same but with more calcium and (I can't remember the other mineral - maybe phosphorus?). Perhaps these extra amounts cause the graininess?
I'd imagine If you aren't also offering whole milk or cutting it a bit with whole milk I can see the added mineral benefit of toddler formula. Otherwise, If you are providing whole milk as well then likely you'd get adequate amount from infant formula. If LO is refusing the more grainy formula maybe talk to your Dr about continuing with infant and supplementing with milk?
bennieangel the doctor said we could do either one. Since we are over the year mark we decided to try the toddler formula.
I'm not sure if it is bothering him much or not. I haven't noticed him making faces or outright refusing the bottle. He's sick so not drinking a ton anyway. I was just curious if anyone else had seen that consistency.

ntdane, good to know. We'll probably stick with Kirkland formula if we do extended formula at all(likely) since it's so cheap I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I'll add this to the list to ask the pedi about at our 12mo!
Yeah, we use the up&up brand and the toddler formula was normally the same price, I think, but it was on sale when I was looking so that factored into the decision a little too .
I used it with James- it is greasier than regular formula. James did have some adjustment to it as well. But Ethan has had the same going from BM to formula to transitions to almond milk. Kids have preferences too
We are transitioning to milk and skipping toddler formula. The pediatric dietitian I work with only recommends toddler formula for their who are not on the charts or who don't eat a balanced diet with lots of nutrients.

Exactly! We won't need to use it with LO. He's doing fine with his eating habits. DS1 was and still is a picky eater. Although we are now learning it is more than likely sensory related. I still have to offer him breakfast shakes with a multivitamin to make sure he's getting something more than just the 5 things he'll eat.

Yeah, he just got on the charts at his 12 month appointment . We moved Keira straight to WCM because she's a little moose. They started out 2 oz apart and now she's over 3 lbs bigger, lol. They both eat pretty much anything I put on their plates so hopefully we won't stay on this long.
