March 15 is definitely the best BMB there is. You guys are so supportive and I loved reading everyone wish me luck here and also on FB. Here's my labor story, it's a long one:
I started having contractions around 9AM on Wednesday the 25th. They were very consistent at 3-5 min apart and lasting for a minute. Thankfully my husband hadn't gone to work yet (he was scheduled to go later that day) and called L&D for me. They said I was probably in early labor and said to come in when I felt like it. I waited about 3 hours before I felt like we should head to the hospital.
On the way, we dropped off our dog Nymeria at the kennel (she was scheduled to be there starting the next day and thankfully they were able to take her a day early) and headed to the hospital. Once we got there we went to L&D triage (around 1PM) and I was checked they said I was 2cm dilated and about 75% effaced. We basically hung out there, I was still contracting regularly but wasn't dilating much. Around 5:30PM the on-call OB checked me and said I was dilated around 3-4cm and admitted me.
Once I was in my labor room we just hung out and I was able to breathe comfortably through all the contractions I was having. When I was checked again at 10:15PM I was only 4cm, they left me alone for another couple hours and checked me again at 2:30AM I was only 5cm. The attending talked to the on-call OB and she decided to put me on pitocin to get my contractions closer together, so I was put on pitocin around 3AM and that's also when I got my first dose of the GBS+ antibiotics. I was able to take a bit of a nap and I was doing okay with the pain.
Around 9AM my OB came in to check me and I hadn't advanced much, I think I effaced a bit but that's it. She broke my water and it was the weirdest sensation. It didn't happen as a trickle, it felt like a water balloon went off.... My OB had to completely change clothes (thankfully she was in scrubs), but we all thought it was pretty funny. My contractions started getting a lot more painful and I was checked again around Noon and I was still only 5cm. About every 30 min they kept upping my pitocin and it got way too painful that I had to get an epidural. Once that was in I was able to rest again and when I was checked again around 2:30PM I was up to 6cm. I still had some feeling in my legs (they were tingly and felt like they were asleep) and I started to feel pressure on my bottom around 4PM, when the nurse checked me I was finally up to 10cm! I started pushing then and Michaela Brynn was born at 6:24PM. She was 8lbs 10oz and 21in long. I had some hemorrhaging once we were in our postpartum room and I almost had to have an emergency D&C. Thankfully they were able to get it under control with other meds and my bleeding is pretty much non-existent. We're home now and doing okay... I have some hemorrhoids which are fun, but I have plenty of things to help with them.
Here are some pictures we had the photographer take right after she was born.
