Today after I got out of the shower I found my phone laying on the floor. I noticed it said that my phone was in emergency mode. Apparently Avery had somehow dialed 911. Thankfully the dispatchers heard kids playing and realized it was an accidental call. They did call back to confirm, but my phone was on silent so I missed the call. DH recognized the missed number and immediately called to tell them it was an accident. I think the dispatchers got a good laugh out of a cops kid accidentally dialing 911. I put a password lock on my phone today.
I'm a dirty lurker, but if your phone is like mine, password protection won't do any good. How do I know that? My dd called 911 twice last week (two different days) bc she got a hold of my phone that's locked but has the emergency call button that works without having to unlock the phone.
Needless to say, my phone is now on top of some containers on the back of the counter where she can definitely not reach it.
eta: it's actually easier to call 911 from a locked phone bc there's not many buttons that do anything.
I was going to say the same thing the dirty lurker said. Most newer phones are still enabled to allow calls to 911 even in lock mode. You might want to check your manual to see how that works.
DH was trying to teach Kayleigh how to call 911 in an emergency, and all I kept thinking was "She's going to try calling when there's no emergency." Right now its still obviously way over her head, but I guess its better to be safe than sorry.
I'm just impressed she knew to dial 911. I haven't Coco to dial that yet. Of course she barely knows what a phone is for in our household.
I don't think she "knew" how to do it. I'm assuming she just managed to hit the right keys by accident. She had no idea she had called anyone. She kept saying "I no call police."
I've worried about DD#1 calling because they've been taught in school. We have gone over how we only call in a real emergency. She understands to only call if mommy or daddy is really hurt. Although last night she asked if she called 911 if she would be able to talk to her dad. I told her we just call daddy's cell phone when he's on duty. I can just see her calling 911 and asking for her dad. He'd be mortified.
