What is everyone reading right now? Books help me stay awake at nighttime feedings but don't wake me up too much so I am able to fall back asleep. I am reading Legion: Skin Deep by Brandon Sanderson. It's a sequel to Legion. Very good so far and not too deep or complicated for my new mom brain.

Currently reading As You Wish, Cary Ewles account on the making of The Princess Bride. Since I'm super behind the times thd divergent series is my next read.
I'm currently reading "A tale for the time being" by Ruth Ozeki and highly recommend it.
I recently loved "where'd you go, Bernadette?" and "the Interestings". I recently read and did NOT care for "the goldfinch"
I was just contemplating an audible.com subscription today...I'm about to start a weekly 2 hour each way commute with a hopefully one weeknight a week or every-other-week at home and the first book I would choose is "Unbroken" by Laura Hilldebrand. anyone use audible.com? thoughts?
totally recommend audible. I'm currently listening to unbroken.
also still working my way through Book of Life (in discovery of witches series).

I haven't, but if you like Tina Fey, Bossypants got me through my previous super long commute! For a few days, at least!

I liked audible.com so much I'd burn through my books and have a hard time resisting buying more before my monthly allotment reupped. My commute used to be an hour in each direction.
I found out my local library does audio books, so I signed up, downloaded the app, and started listening for free which is nice. The library's selection isn't as wide as audible but if they don't have something they take requests, and everything I've requested eventually came in even if it took a couple months.

Currently I'm reading Vicki Lewis Thompson's werewolf series. Very light reading with a solid dose of smut, haha. Keeps me entertained without anything depressing (good for my hormone swings) or complicated (since I'm reading in the middle of the night a lot). Before that I caught up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I swear I read books of substance too sometimes!

I second the library recommendation! I used to do tons of audiobooks for when I was training for my half marathons. They would keep my mind occupied during my long runs and I would run farther if I got to an interesting part.
We listened to the first game of thrones audiobook on our honeymoon road trip. It got us from Minnesota to Los Vegas and back with many detours and stops along the way!

I might have to check this one out. I also need lighter types of reading right now with the emotions. I'm doing better but am still feeling "fragile".
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig, reading is hard for me while nursing. It makes me want to go to sleep and I have a difficult time turning pages! I'm hoping I'll get better at it because I love to read and it's taking a long time for me to read this book
I just finished Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. So good. Very dark and compelling. They're making a movie out of it. I've been loading books onto my iPhone so I can read while cuddling babies.
I'm trying to finish Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I'm not a fan of it but I'm over halfway through and I really need to just finish it. Then there are I think 2 books in the Odd Thomas series that I haven't read yet, but I need to finish the zombie one first...

I'm totally the type to force myself to finish books I'm not enjoying too. I gave myself permission to quit one I didn't like when I went in to the hospital to be induced since I wanted to take something else with me, but otherwise I usually power through.

I'm reading Firefight, also by Sanderson. It's the sequel to Steelheart.
I was reading the Slow Regard of Silent Things (Patrick Rothfuss) but decided it was the most boring book I've ever read, and that was not the type of book to be reading while sleep deprived. I expected better from him. Beautifully written, boring as hell. He forgot to write a plot into the book.
I just finished reading Before I Go by Colleen Oakley. It was about a woman with terminal cancer who decides to find a new wife for her husband before she passes away. It was a bit sad, but also had funny parts. I am planning on reading The Girl on the Train next by Paula Hawkins.

I just finished Firefight a few days ago. I've read all his books I think. I've been a fan since Elantris!
I'm going to gush a bit but I'm super excited. I just discovered a website and app called 'overdrive' that lets me download any audiobook I want, free as long as I have a library card. Depending on where you live, it appears to hook you in with whatever consortium of libraries your library belongs to (in mine it's my entire state). It's awesome! I just put about 10 books on hold and downloaded (in seconds) "the marriage plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides to my phone. free! did I mention free?
Been around for a while. Your library has to pay for the subscription. Another good reason to support your local public library!
For sci-fi, Ursula Le Guin is a good one, but older. China Miéville does steampunky sci-fi/speculative fiction. I'm enjoying James S.A. Corey as well - I read Leviathan Wakes and its kind of like a mix between Firefly, Event Horizon, and Battlestar Galactica.
Love the sci fi recs - I adore Nathan Fillion bc of Firefly (have you ever watched the outtakes in the special features for Serenity? SO funny). And we named our dog after a BSG character. You are not alone

I need to re-visit Sanderson I think. I had a hard time getting into Mistborn, so I haven't read much else by him except the end of the WoT. And, I don't want to get into Way of Kings series because I get so impatient waiting for the next book. I plan to wait until that series is mostly done before starting it. But I know he has plenty of other stuff.
But as far as Rothfuss -- pooky08, have you read Anthony Ryan? I thought Blood Song had some similar elements to The Name of the Wind, but moved a lot faster and there was a lot more action (and fair warning, it's a bit bloody). I mean, I think Rothfuss writes beautifully but The Wise Man's Fear moved pretty slowly for me. Anyway, bonus, the first 2 are out already and the third (and supposedly final) book has a July release date. Yay! www.amazon.com/Ravens-Shadow-Book-One-Blood-ebook/dp/B00ABKGG0C/
desertsun I agree about Wise Man's Fear - it did drag a bit.
As for Sanderson, the first Mistborn book was my least favorite of all of his books. A little too Oceans 11 for me, but I enjoyed the rest of the series, when he just rolled with the magic system and didn't seem to try so hard.
I'll check out Anthony Ryan - thanks for the suggestion!

Miss Killjoy Did you ever read Brent Weeks??? I know you said you might look into him over on our book threads on thebump. I'm still pushing everyone who likes Sanderson or Rothfuss to read him because I think he gets less attention but is just as good.
Also Brian McClellan is a newish author and both Sanderson and Weeks recommend his books. I just finished the second one and they are good. It is set in a very similar time period to the French Revolution and has gunpowder magic so it's different then most magic systems.

Oh I also just wanted to make sure you knew that James Corey is a pen name for Daniel Abraham so if you like his science fiction series you should check out his fantasy series if you haven't already.
