I'm going to gush a bit but I'm super excited. I just discovered a website and app called 'overdrive' that lets me download any audiobook I want, free as long as I have a library card. Depending on where you live, it appears to hook you in with whatever consortium of libraries your library belongs to (in mine it's my entire state). It's awesome! I just put about 10 books on hold and downloaded (in seconds) "the marriage plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides to my phone. free! did I mention free?
Miss Killjoy Did you ever read Brent Weeks??? I know you said you might look into him over on our book threads on thebump. I'm still pushing everyone who likes Sanderson or Rothfuss to read him because I think he gets less attention but is just as good.
Also Brian McClellan is a newish author and both Sanderson and Weeks recommend his books. I just finished the second one and they are good. It is set in a very similar time period to the French Revolution and has gunpowder magic so it's different then most magic systems.
I have a Brent Weeks book on my kindle still to read, probably based off of a recommendation I got from you ladies.
bookworm87 are you talking about the powder mage trilogy? I've read the first two as well, just waiting for the third to come out. The second only came out a couple of months ago, so I'm not expecting it any time soon.
I'm reading Shadows of the Empire because it's one of the few fiction books in my house that I hadn't read yet. Next, I'm going to reread CS Friedman's Magister trilogy. It's probably my favorite fantasy trilogy ever. I love all of her books.
Maybe I'm in the Sanderson minority, but I thought the first Mistborn book was the best of that trilogy (I also really love Alloy of Law set in that world), but my favorite of his books so far is Warbreaker. I won't read WoK I until he's finished writing it because I can't handle starting and stopping and starting a series again. I got stuck in Naomi Novik's Tremeraire books because I started thinking it was a trilogy, whoops! They're really good (think Jane Austin/Napoleonic Wars but with dragons) but I'm waiting until she done at which point I'll reread the 5 I've already read and finish out the series in one go.

I can't believe how many Sanderson fans there are on here! When I first started reading his books no one had heard of him! I am always suggesting his books to people. I loved all the Mistborn books.
When he was writing Warbreaker he let people read it online and give suggestions. I was on his website every Wednesday waiting for the next installment. I am in the acknowledgments. I should read that one again. It's been a while.
I would read Warbreaker when he was posting it, too! I reread it last year, but on kindle with Sanderson's discussions on each chapter. We have the hardback version so that's how I had read it originally.
That is so cool that you both read Warbreaker when he was posting it online! I actually read Brent Weeks before I read Sanderson (my husband got his Night Angel trilogy because he thought the cover was cool. My husband doesn't really take the time to read). That lead me back to fiction and I did one of those "if you like blank then you might also like blank" searches. And Sanderson kept coming up in people's recommendations. Did you guys read his most recent State of the Sanderson where he said he had finished the next two Alloy of Law books?? I love those characters and the western feel so I'm really excited about those coming out!

I haven't had time to really read in months! Despite working at a book store. Womp. But I did pick thru some of the yet to be published works we get back in the break room. One was "You" but I can't remember the author for the life of me. It kinda creeped me out and bored me all at the same time. So I started the Game Of Thrones books because I like the show so much and I heard that they're really good reads. Less than half way thru the first and I have to agree. As for mobile reading I like actually having the book over staring at my screen. I do that too much already :/

I have been attempting to start "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon for a while now. I'm 40 pages in and wish I had more motivation to read. Maybe when Mina gets a little older? A FTM with a 2 week old is enough of a challenge without throwing literature into the mix. But I miss reading so much!
I'm reading Ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie. It's SF. I've never read anything by Sanderson. I should check him out.
seerealsky Outlander gets much better after maybe 100 pages. It's a slow start.
Good to know! Now I know I'm getting close to the excitement! It's not a bad start so far by any means, though. I almost read the series a couple of years back and just never followed through with the suggestion. The hype since the show last year makes me wish I had, because now I feel like I'm just reading it because of the show. >.>
I seriously wish I had time to read! Every time I pick up a book the baby wakes up or the dog wants to play!! It's always something!
I was feeling too busy or stressed when I first had him but reading is such a great escape for me. I read while he eats much of the time and it really helped me start to feel like myself again.
