My LO is 8 weeks old, and has been crying almost constantly since he was born. I pump and he drinks from a bottle and has been since 1 week old. He seems so gassy, and I feel like we have tried everything! We have tried probiotic drops which seemed to help but just for the first week. I cut dairy from my diet 2 weeks ago and again, he seemed better for a couple of days, but now he is back to screaming and crying all day long again. We do the 5 s's, swaddle him, take him for walks...all of the obvious suggestions. He seems like he just really struggles to poop and is very gassy. He kicks his legs out, strains, and his face gets all red. It's stopping him from sleeping well too. I'm just wondering if this seems normal or if I should have the doctor check him again!
Try Simethicone (gas drops) at each and every feeding for about two weeks!!!! That was a Godsend for us with DS who was colicy and we ended up using it until he was about a year and switched over to lactaid (when we tried cow's milk - I didn't sleep for a month!). The generic simethicone is just fine and thankfully it's not very expensive. DS has an intolerance to dairy (which is snuck into A LOT of foods and (of all things) blueberries so we ended up combining pumped milk with Similac Sensitive which also helped greatly. It's about finding what works best because if baby is constantly screaming and not sleeping, there's only so long before you'll get burnout. One of my brothers couldn't tolerate any BM and ended up off from it at 2 weeks old in spite of my Mom doing everything she could. Keep pumping!!
Try "bicycling" (gently putting knees to chest) his little legs to try to get some of the gas out. With both kids it was amazing how much they smiled once the gas got out and come out it did!!
PP has good suggestions but IMO you should take your LO to the pedi again for professional advice. Is your LO going to have another dr appt soon for wellness, shots, etc. anyway?
