I'm still nursing my son and I nursed my daughter all through my pg with him (that was often not delightful). I'm thinking I'll continue to nurse DS throughout this pg, if we can both tolerate it. Nursing a toddler is magical at bringing in newborn milk & staving off engorgement.
I'm still nursing. I'm not sure I want to nurse through this pregnancy. My boobs are so sore and it's painful already. I'm trying to slowly wean my DS but it's really been a slow process. I also worry my DS might not handle sharing with a newborn lol. I'd like to have him stop for awhile before the baby gets here. We are only down to one or two nursing sessions a day so I'm hoping the engorgement won't be bad.
DD nurses when she gets up in the morning, and when she goes to bed. Sometimes during the day if she's sick or having a really bad day.
I haven't had sore nips, so luckily that is not an issue.
I do know that I do not want to tandem nurse. The morning one, she's not really into, so I know I could drop down to just before bed with no issues at all. Weaning from falling asleep on the boob is going to be an issue. I love nursing her to sleep, it's our special alone time. But once the next baby is here, I can't spend an hour putting her down every night. I'm going to wait, though. I'll probably start sleep training her once I'm about 20 weeks. (hoping she somehow decides to self-wean by then).
I think self-weaning is pretty common. We were pretty much there by 2nd tri last time, but just didn't fully wean. It was definitely a comfort thing. I was also committed to gut it out until dd was 12m and by then it felt like we may as well keep on going until delivery.
Dd was jaundiced... And it was a huge pain when my milk was slow to come in. A big reason I kept going was an effort to avoid that again. I never imagined I'd tandem bf, but went with what worked for us all & we did tandem for about 9 months. It's crazy to even see that written, lol.
Good luck to everyone still nursing. I know how challenging it can be. I hope we all get to continue or wean as we like. Pg makes it a bumpy road for sure.
Not still nursing but I just wanted to comment on the self-weaning. My dd self weaned around 13 months (2 months ago). She just wasn't interested anymore and wouldn't "ask" anymore so I went with it. I will say her night time sleep has gotten better since weaning.
I'm not nursing anymore, my son self weaned at 7 months when I went back to school. He preferred bottles then. I was heartbroken but I think it's amazing that you ladies are still nursing!
I'm still nursing. It doesn't look like she is ready to self-wean anytime soon. I plan to let her nurse as long as she wants, although, I'm not sure I want to tandem nurse but we will see how it goes. I plan to start sleep training sometime next week so nursing to sleep may come to an end if need be. She is not a sleeper and has refused all naps for the last month and I'm going crazy trying to fix it.
Still nursing my toddler and doing okay. We mostly feed morning and night and some naps. My nipples are sore, but I tolerate it and it seems to subside during the session. I plan to tandem and would love any tips and feedback from personal experiences. Kudos to all of the nursing mommies and good luck with your journey!

How are y'all handling the extra calorie needs? I'm worried I'm not taking in enough for the baby and my DD. I felt faint yesterday which got me thinking about my caloric needs for both pregnancy & nursing.
I think this is hard. I tried to eat very often during my last pg for this reason...I think staying hydrated is key and keeping your blood sugar up with healthy foods. Right now your increased caloric needs are pretty minimal. They longer you're pg, the greater the need.
Baked oatmeal cups were a great snack during my last pg they helped a lot when my supply dipped to get it back up too.

Still nursing DS who turned two a few weeks ago. He loves his "mi-mis" and shows no signs of self weaning. I'm hoping it'll happen on its own soon. I don't really want to nurse through this pregnancy and definitely do not want to tandem nurse. It'd be nice to get a small break before starting over again.

For nursing an older baby you should be taking in 300 extra calories a day. You don't need extra calories in the first trimester for the baby however you need to make sure your blood sugar doesn't get too low. I almost passed out in the bank at 11 weeks because my blood sugar dropped.
We did sleep training at 8 months while she was still nursing. She would nurse before bed and I would put her down while she was awake. It really helped her quality of sleep in our experience.
