Hello, I am new to the board and as the topic implies I am thinking of transitioning to EPing. My LO is 8 weeks and I have never really gotten into BFing due to numerous issues - painful/poor latch, allergy to lanolin, yeast infection, oversupply, forceful letdown, ect. I am currently nursing on one side per feeding due to the oversupply and pumping both sides till empty every morning with another pump in the evening when DH bottle feeds him. I am going back to work in 3 weeks and would also like to up my freezer stash and was thinking the best way to transition over to EPing would be to start pumping the opposite side while he feeds on the other and then slowly dropping all breast feeds. I'm afraid of increasing my supply too much since I will probably only be able to pump every 3-4 hours while working and LO currently feeds every 2-2.5, Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I've gotten the oversupply fairly under control and get 6-8 oz with morning pump and about 4-6 with the evening. Early on he was drowning in the boob and I was always engorged and leaking so I'm a little afraid of overpumping and setting myself back or creating a schedule I can't keep up with once I go back to work where I'll probably be able to pump 3 times over 12 hours.
Ok well I guess the only advice I have for you for now is to make sure you get a good long pump in first thing in the morning (like before you leave for work) when your prolactin is the highest because this is the most important pump of the day. The second is try to be as consistent with your pump schedule as you possibly can. Meetings come up, etc. but the key to consistent supply is consistent demand. Feel free to update us with any issues after you are officially back at work.
