Well, that was a tad embarrassing!

I'm in week three of subbing at an elementary school for a music teacher who's out on maternity leave. It's always dicey trying to use SMU for OPKs when you're somewhere new, but this school has a staff bathroom with one toilet and a door that locks, not a set of stalls with an open door. It's not too big a hassle to grab an OPK during my first break, pop in there, and palm the stick as it dries on the way back to my "office" (former janitor's closet, lest you glamorize my environs!).

Okay, so today I open the packet and put the non-pee-soak-upping end between my teeth so I can rip open the packet a little more (no cups, so I use the packet as a container--this is part of my technique to avoid pee fingers, which I'm actually really good at now). Anyway, I'm sitting there with this stick between my teeth, legs spread, ripping the packet, and...the door busts wide open. Guess I forgot to lock the door? I probably looked like I was involved in illicit drug use or something! It wasn't someone I've seen before, so I can't even joke about it with her. I cannot stop laughing about it! It has totally made my day (which, you know, is probably also really weird). That poor woman!

In my imagination she's posting about this on some old people forum and getting a kick out of it, too. Or she's reported me to the school board.

mrsbutton, here comes a way-too-detailed description of my technique. Partial credit goes to the 2012 TTGP regs--that's where I got my inspiration; I've adapted it a bit since then.


1. Open the packet along one seam about 1/3 of the way.

2. Round out the upper third of the packet so it's an open circle at the top (but obviously still flat at the bottom of the packet).

3. Pinch the seam just below where the opening ends.

4. Hold the packet at a 45-degree angle with the opening facing up.

5. Pee.

5a. Use packet like a funnel to catch pee.

5b. Don't let the packet overflow or you'll get pee fingers!



ETA: Oh! Forgot the most important step--it should be listed before step 1 above. LOCK THE DOOR!

No! Crazy, right? She must have been a sub too, I guess. I still have three weeks at this school, so we'll see if she makes another appearance. I'll be sure to keep you posted.
