I did a lot of research about the two because I wanted to gift one to my SIL for christmas. The biggest difference is Ipsy is just cosmetics, and birchbox has bath products, fragrances, even some random non-beauty products like pens. Also Birchbox is more high-end stuff where if you like something and want a full size bottle you'd have to order it and it won't be cheap (but they have a points thing for discounts). Ipsy stuff is often available in drugstores. I ended up going with Birchbox.

Hmm... it sounds like Ipsy would probably be the better option for me. I think I'm going to try Ipsy for a few months and then a few months of Birchbox.

I did both. I cancelled my Birchbox almost two years ago because I got frustrated that what they mostly send is teeny, tiny samples. I can get those anywhere. Ipsy would send me a ton of premium samples and full size products. I cancelled Ipsy when I left FLA, since I was unemployed and didn't want the extra expense.
It's a much bigger splurge, but worth every penny (my sister subscribes): GlossyBox. They send ALL full size items. All very high end. I believe it's $25 a month.

I've never heard of glossybox, but now I'm intrigued.
