Hi ladies,

Thought I'd try to generate more discussions on here (or maybe I'm just bored?).

So how does the housework/ yardwork get divvied up in your house? If you don't have kids yet do you think it will change once you do?  If you have kids did it change after they arrived?

What's your least favourite chore?

What do you obsess over and what chore is the one that always gets forgotten?

Do you have a set schedule for chores or is it just as needed?

Lastly any tips you want to share?

In our house my husband does most of the cooking but I help with prep (chopping veggies, grating cheese, washing lettuce, etc). I do the laundry and most of the cleaning but DH vacuums and does the mirrors (too high for me to reach). DH also deals with the garbage, lawn mowing and snow removal.

I'm expecting my first at the end of June and I think at first things will be the same because we'll both be home but I think once he goes back to work and I'm home I'll do more of the household chores.

Least favourite is vacuuming.

I obsess over dish towels, I can't deal with the smell once they are wet so they get washed ALL the time. Washing walls and baseboards get forgotten all the time.

We don't have a written schedule but laundry gets started on Fridays, floor gets vacuumed on weekend and swept twice a week, everything else is done on the weekend and then again as needed.

Tips: I have a glass shower that is a super pain to clean so I keep one of those dish scrubbing brush (the ones you can fill with dishsoap) in the shower filled with a mixture of vinegar and dish soap. It works great to get soap scum off the shower and glass door but is gentle enough that I can use it while showering.

DH does all the cooking and snow blowing. We are about 50/50 on cutting the grass. I do pretty much everything else but he will put away dishes/help fold laundry/sweep if asked. My floor *should* probably get swept every day because of our two dogs but realistically it's every couple of days. I don't think I've ever cleaned my baseboards (FFSC? Lol)

If ours weren't super thick and white I'd never clean them but they end up looking so gross that I can't stand it!

H shovels snow, mows the lawn, generally is on bathroom cleaning duty, and does a lot of the cooking. Although since becoming a SAHM I've started doing a lot more cooking, otherwise I pretty much do general upkeep in the house daily when I can. I'm now over 6 months pregnant and have a toddler so somedays I have a lot more initiative than others, lol, but H is really good at doing whatever needs to be done if I'm having a bad day/week. DS is 20 months and likes to help empty the dishwasher :-) He's started to get really good if he spills his water on the floor I can throw him a towel and he'll wipe it up, even if I have to get the spots he missed, it's still actually really helpful because he avoids spilling more now haha.

I do more inside work and he does the outside work. I don't know how to use the snow blower, and since we've had a house with a proper driveway I've been pregnant or had a new baby in winter so I avoid the outside stuff. He chops all the firewood and usually mows the lawn. We both do outside clean up after dogs since we both take kiddo outside to play.

I do 97% of the cooking, it's very very rare that he does it - occasionally I forget to put something together for them on my work nights so he has to do it on his own then. I do most of the laundry and general upkeep around the house. He will tell you he does most of the house work, but its very rare that he properly does it besides vacuuming (with the wrong vacuum) or cleaning the bathroom.

I don't obsess over anything, I'm very relaxed about the state of the house and as long as its clean (I mean cleanliness, not just things scattered around) I don't care at all.

We do laundry over the weekend, but thats only because of peak hours. Everything else is done as needed.

What's your least favourite chore? cleaning the inside of the fridge; always more gross in there than I want to admit and it is a pain in the butt

What do you obsess over and what chore is the one that always gets forgotten? DH is virtually OCD so he does the obsessing for me, window washing is the chore that gets 'forgotten'

Do you have a set schedule for chores or is it just as needed? ongoing, every day, never ends

Lastly any tips you want to share? don't get behind on laundry

Haha I didn't even think about windows.....that's how much I forget them!

I do most of the cooking/cleaning inside. DH does garbages, and outside work for all seasons. We help each other when we can!
I'm hoping that after kids, DH will help out a little more with the cleaning aspect of chores

Putting away laundry. I don't mind every other part of it but I loathe putting it away.


What do you obsess over and what chore is the one that always gets forgotten?

I obsess over the grass cutting (DH does this) and he leaves it to grow way too long, it looks so much cleaner when it's nice and short! 
Forget about cleaning windows/washing floors. 2 dogs makes it never ending!

We try to keep up on everything by tidying up each night before bed. I've tried the scheduled cleaning but it doesn't work out for me!


Lastly any tips you want to share?
I try to always remember that someone could show up unannouced at anytime and try to keep my house presentable for that!
Filling up the sink WHILE you are cooking dinner makes life a whole lot easier.
Doing laundry a few loads at a time makes it way less overwhelming. It took me 6 years to learn this haha
