I'm really weary of taking OTC meds in first tri. Can you ladies share your best home remedies for head colds? I'm really congested, my sinuses hurt and I have a headache.
Me: 27 DH: 35 MFI, failed vas-reversal TTC since 2011 Met RE 7/2012 6 failed IUIs 9/2014 IUI BFP, MMC @12 weeks, natural mc @ home 11/18/2014 01/2015 IUI, BFP, CP 2/2015 IUI, BFP, due 11/14/15 delivered 9/8/15 via emergency CS for severe preeclampsia. Currently in the NICU.
Well, you can take Tylenol. That will help with the headache. Just don't overdo it.
You can use saline spray, like the Arm and Hammer kind (I always use it), to help loosen stuff up in there and moisturize your nose. Take a long, hot shower and get the steam going. And up your liquid intake. It'll help loosen stuff up, as well, and might help with that headache, too.
I got a bad cold with DS and tea and honey were super helpful. The heat helped break up everything and soothed my throat. Also agree with PP about Tylenol and saline.
Lots of liquids and saline spray should help. Steam is also great--run a hot shower and basically try to loosen everything up and blow it out (gross, I know, but it works great). Neti pots can also be very helpful, but I'm usually too lazy to get use one.
Neti pot. It makes me gag but it was the only thing that helped when my allergies were ferocious last spring (I was bf so I couldn't take anything effective).
DD brought me home a cold from preschool, so I'm in the same boat!
Benadryl is the only thing I feel safe taking in the first trimester (there have been recent studies questioning tylenol safety). It's not the best for a cold, but helps a little.
Pediacare also makes a plug-in vaporizer (gentle vapors) that helps ease the symptoms a little. Bonus - safe for infants when they are too young for anything else.
Thanks ladies! I'm sitting here feeling miserable and getting bouts of nausea too. Fuck "morning sickness"!! I think I'm going home after lunch. I just can't even right now.

I ran a humidifier, drank tons of water, and ate spicy food so things would loosen up. I also went through two boxes of tissues (not exaggerating) because I wanted to keep things moving as much as possible.
