Can anyone talk to me about Motor Neuron Abnormalities?

This is something we have been looking into for awhile. The gross motor symptoms were what originally made her pedi and then her first neuro think she had some sort of mild CP.
So the developmental pedi made the diagnosis of "CNS - Minor Motor Neuron abnormality. She has low tone, poor coordination and balance, poor motor planning, poor fine motor skills, imbalance and asymmetry. He didn't really talk about what this meant? And the only thing that comes up when I google are motor neuron diseases which are scary.

My DD has "mild motor dysfunction" which sounds like a different way of saying the same thing. She also has low tone in her core, difficulty with motor planning, bi-lateral coordination, etc. Our OT attributed it to vestibular issues which fall under SPD, so we worked on it with our OT for two years.

Have you read The Out of Sync Child? There's a section on vestibular dysfunction.

Yes, this sounds very much like my DD. I asked one of the doctor's about vestibular dysfunction and she said she didn't look in bad enough shape to have that? She said the kids she sees with vestibular dysfunction are way more physically disabled.

Yes, this sounds very much like my DD. I asked one of the doctor's about vestibular dysfunction and she said she didn't look in bad enough shape to have that? She said the kids she sees with vestibular dysfunction are way more physically disabled. 

I think an OT would be better able to screen for it. My DD used to trip all the time, fall off of chairs, bump into walls. She didn't seem to be able to perceive how high she was off of the ground, so she was afraid of even the smallest heights. She didn't have a dominant hand. She had a lot of trouble with tasks where her hands had to be doing two different things. She has gotten so much better. She'll never win one of those races where you have to balance an egg on a spoon, but at least she doesn't trip over her own feet anymore.

Definitely pick up the book and read that chapter.

Wut? My kid had vestibular dysfunction as part of Spd and she hit every gross motor milestone on time and is advanced with fine motor.

Eta: 0% chance of her being an athlete but she's definitely not physically disabled.

I am not saying the doctor was right. I was just saying what I was told as why they ruled this out.

Hypotonia to varying degrees is almost universal among those on spectrum. FWIW, DS's fine motor skills are remarkable. He met the major gross motor skills except pedaling which was impacted by his ability to cross the midline.

Yeah, my DD isn't physically disabled, but she comes across as klutzy. We were fortunate that we could afford private OT for two years. Dealing with her fine motor delay and her coordination issues helped her frustration level immensely.

I realize that. You may get more helpful info from an ot on this. Does she have one at school?

How is her speech now? I think you said in another thread she was late to talk? You might look up dyspraxia. It's a motor planning disorder that affects speech, movement, fine motor skills, etc. It's what my daughter has along with mild hypotonia. Basically in our case it means she lots of repetition and more practice than her peers to learn certain skills. We also have done things like swimming, dance, and gymnastics to work on her core strength and motor planning.

My kid has all this stuff but it's infection based. I had to get outside the box to pinpoint the infections. Also look into mito dysfunction and mito cocktail. OT was not much help for us.

I agree with getting an OT involved to evaluate and get more insight along with a treatment plan. My kid is and always has been really klutzy, but she was meeting gross motor milestones when she should have been based off her adjusted age and thanks to the EI PT working with her. Her fine motor skills have always been the issue; we saw immediate progress after getting her glasses, but then she stalled and has a hard time with so many tasks. I regret not pushing EI to get an actual
OT assigned to us after she turned 1 and the need was identified. Instead, I let them sweet talk me into letting her PT do what he could and "wait it out."

Anyway, I'd probably start with the OT, and if you think your neuro could help as well, give them a call and see what they say.
