Of course, I'm waiting till the last minute to order a cake. I was planning to just do the colossal cupcakes from Kroger. But we are going to need 2. One for her birthday party and one for pictures we are doing on her actual birthday. I've been looking at bakeries online but some of the cakes are $35 and I just can't spend that much. Any recommendation for bakeries that could do a smash cake at a reasonable price?

No recs, but have you considered doing a cupcake or large cupcake for the party and/or pictures? Due to time constraints, I opted to give M a cupcake instead of a cake and it was the perfect amount of mess.

I'm probably going to bake something for both his cake smash photos, which will be during the week of his birthday, and his birthday cake for the party. I had a custom topper made, and I don't want to buy an expensive cake he's going to smash, so the cute topper will suffice.
My mom will be driving my cakes up from Frankfort (yes I'm that person). But there is a great cheap bakery I've used before in Covington, Ky. But I don't think that's anywhere close to you. I'm talking $25-$50 for a fully decorated cake that feeds 15-20 people.
Thanks Ladies! I talked to my mom and see wants to order a mini cake from Publix in FL! They pick it up Tuesday and drive up and then her birthday is on Thursday. I'm not going to say no to her taking care of it for me so I think I've got it all figured out. ladytiffany24 and sstwinklinglites I thought you all would appreciate the publix reference ;-)

It's been a while since I've had publix cake. But I recall that the buttercream icing was yummy. I feel like a traitor since DH works for Kroger. But their bakery just isn't the same.
