Hi, I'm new to this board, active on my birth month board. I'm 21 weeks pregnant. I was wondering if anyone is on any medication for their anxiety while pregnant. I know it's risk vs. benefit. I've stayed on my Wellbutrin, but got off of Neurontin, which helped my anxiety immensely. Tonight is my follow up anatomy scan, and I'm planning on asking if it's safe for me to go back on my Neurontin. Anyone have any similar experiences?
I was on medication for my anxiety and on sleep meds too. I can't remember what I was on, but I was on some pretty high dosages. When I found out I was pregnant I started to reduce my dosages, and eventually went off. I know this is not an option for some, but it is what I did. What has your doctor said?

I saw him yesterday, and he agreed right away that I'm far into my second trimester, and he supports my decision to go back on my Neurontin. He was knowledgable, supportive and I trust him. He stressed that he also makes it a priority to take care of the mother, not just the baby in the womb.
Good to hear that! I'm not PG, but when discussing options with my Psych she said it's important for the mom to be healthy because in the long run that effects the baby too. Better to be on the meds and not anxious/depressed, than to be anxious/depressed, she said.
Hi! I was just curious, but isn't Neurontin prescribed solely for seizures and epileptic patients? Are you taking this for anxiety? It seems like getting off the Neurontin and keeping the Wellbutrin caused your anxiety to go down, so why go back on the Neurontin? From what I read about it, there are more risks than benefits, but I'm glad you got a straight answer from your doctor already. I know I'm super late to this conversation but I just wanted to be sure I understood everything because I didn't get a chance to respond before.

Neurontin is primarily prescribed for epilepsy, but is also prescribed for mood stabilization- it's pretty common, actually. It has a wide variety of uses, It has been used in studies to help with morning sickness in pregnancy as well. And going off of it made my anxiety MUCH worse. I've been back on it, with my OBs approval for about a week, and my anxiety is MUCH better. I'm in recovery so I don't use anything addictive, which is why my psych doctor chose it for my anxiety, instead of something like Ativan or Xanax.
