I know there's lots of "normal" when it comes to babies and their weight gain (and if I'm super concerned, I should call my pediatrician). Anyway, LO seemed to grow really quickly at first and now seems "stuck" with her weight gain. She's been at 15 lbs for 2 weeks now. Not truly concerned, she's a contented baby, plenty of wet and dirty diapers. I guess I'm just curious if anyone else's LO seem to be stabilizing?
LO was born at 8 lb 5 oz and will be 16 weeks tomorrow. She's breastfeeding.
Their weight gain typically slows after 6 months, gaining on average a pound a month. Average for an EBF baby is 4-7 oz a week. I would probably call if she hasn't gained anything in that time.
I thought this was going to be about mama weight gain. I gained 6lbs after going back to work and my guess is due to stress. Didn't think I would gain weight after LO was born
I gained after my parents visited sometimes I eat my feelings. Womp womp
DS has had an inconsistent weight gain. He was born 6# 10oz and 20.5 in. The neonatologist in the delivery room scared me by orderig labs on my placenta to check for iugr since ds was almost 41 weeks. My ob assured me ds was within the normal range amd he wasn't concerned (great convo to have while he is doing stitches...) His low point in the hospital was 6# 5 oz and at 1 week he was back to around 7# 19.5 inches (pedi measures different than hospital and his cone head was going down). At 1 month he was over 9# and at 2 months he was 11# and 22 1/4 inches. At his 3 month appointment he was 22 1/2 inches and 11# 5 oz. He had dropped to 2% for length and I think 10% for weight. I freaked out, but our pedi reassures me that he isn't concerned based on where DS started and I am very petite myself. He wanted to wait until the 4 month appt to do anything. DS has been in a growth spurt for about a week so I am hoping he catches up. I am wondering if his slowed growth is from being really tired and not sleeping well when he started daycare.
My baby's weight gain slowed down around 3.5 months. I think it's normal for that to happen. If you look at a growth chart, the curve isn't as steep after 3 months. At her 4 month appointment, she was in the 10th percentile for weight after being at the 5th percentile since birth. She gets really distracted while breastfeeding now and it's so hard to get a good feeding. She's gaining, but just slower now.
Do you mean your baby has not gained any weight in 2 weeks? I would be a little concerned if that is the case. What kind of scale are you using?

I agree with PPs that I would definitely call the pedi about no weight gain at all for 2 weeks at this age. It may be perfectly fine, but it may also be cause for concern. Always best to know and intervene early if it is a concern. Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm not a doctor, but I don't find that odd. Assuming you're following a standard vaccination schedule, your pediatrician will see baby approximately every two months and can offer feedback on weight gain then. What you're describing wouldn't concern me enough to make an additional call or visit, but I can only speak for myself.
Everyone seems alarmed by "no weight gain in two weeks at this age." Unless my child had a previous failure to thrive concern or some other condition that led me to increased vigilance over weight, I wouldn't even be checking. Mine doesn't. In fact, I don't check my daughter's weight at all at home-- we didn't with our son, either. I wouldn't have any idea what she gained (or didn't gain) in the course of two weeks because I feel no urge to check. If I were to check, it would be on my bathroom scale, holding her, then deducting my own weight. It's digital, but only accurate to a half pound (and only as accurate as any bathroom scale).

When she was first born, she took 2.5 weeks to gain back to her birth weight. My milk didn't come in until day 5 but the pediatrician kept having us come back to check the weight. Her 4 month appointment is coming up so I'll mention it then. I've just been weighing her on bathroom scale on bath nights. Weigh self. Weigh self holding her in diaper. Subtract. Scale measures to 0.2 lbs. It used to help me when I needed to see her gain to become confident in my breastfeeding.
Yep, stabilizing here too. He was 9-3 at birth, almost 12 at 1 month, 14-2 at 2 months, 15-3 at 3 months and was 15-9 three weeks later. Curious what his official 4 month weight will be, but I'm guessing no more than 16. Definitely slowing down...
I don't weigh my baby between doctor visits. I haven't weighed her since her 2 month visit and won't weigh her until her 4 month appointment (which will be more like 4.5 month appt.). Babies grow at different rates at different times. If she seems to be eating pretty good and having a good number of dirty dipes then I wouldn't stress out. I didn't weigh my son either and all was fine for him.
But then again if it is going to worry you call your pedi. - if for nothing else then peace of mind.

Bathroom scales are sometimes off. She could be gaining normally, but it's just hard to tell with that scale. Plus, if she peed or pooped before that could affect weight too.
Since I knew my baby wasn't eating as much at each feeding, I tried to feed her more frequently, but that is sometimes hard. So, I added in a dream feed, which has worked well for us.

4 month weight check this morning. Apparently a 12 oz weight gain in two months is a concern. (12lbs to 12lbs 12oz) She gained nothing between 3 and 4 months according to the bathroom scale so I think the apparent slow weight gain can be blamed on recent illness. She was gaining weight normally but lost some in the last week. When one is only around 13 lbs, ounces make a big difference. I am not concerned but just wanted throw out there my experience. We go back for a weight check in two weeks to confirm she's growing appropriately. Her constant smiles and giggles sure don't indicate starvation:-)

We go for her 4 month checkup in a week and a half. We will see what the pediatrician will say. I think she's had a 2 pound gain in 2 months, which is still a little low. I know exactly what you mean about the smiles and laughs! Definitely not a starving kid here!

At her checkup, she was 15 lb 10.5 oz. Doctor wasn't concerned in the slightest about her weight. She came in an immediately congratulated me on a good weight gain.
