I know I still have almost 4 weeks to worry about this, but I'm thinking of what kind of birth control I want to be on after my 6 weeks are up. I've always just used the regular pill, but since I'm breastfeeding, Dr said progesterone only BC (iud, mini pill, implant, shot). Does anyone wanna share what kind of BC they use, side effects, and how they like it?

I'm on the mini pill and haven't had any issues at all! With the mini pill though, you have to be diligent about taking it at the same time each day (I think even more so than the regular pill). *Knock on wood* but I still haven't gotten my first period since having DD due to the mini pill and breastfeeding. That's a nice plus. But not all women are so lucky. I don't have any experience with anything other than a form of the pill. You should talk it over with your OB/GYN too! She can guide you in the direction of what might be best for you!

Every OB is going to have a different opinion, so if you are set on a pill vs. iud/other method, just ask what he/she recommends.
I was planning on using the mini pill when I went in for my 6wk appt, but when my OB asked me about BC he actually recommended I go on a low dose combo pill (Lo Loestrin). He said I could still take is while bf'ing and because it is still a combo pill it would be more effective and wouldn't need to switch to a different pill down the road. Every OB is going to have a different opinion though, so if you are set on a pill vs. iud, just ask what he/she recommends. After a year of taking Lo Loestrin, I haven't had any issues, other than spotting in November and this month, but that was my fault for missing pills, taking 2 in one day, etc. I'm honestly surprosed I'm not KTFU with how irresponsible I've been taking my pills the past 4-5mo. Oops. Sorry this is choppy or if it doesn't make sense, I'm trying to GTFO of work.

My OB didn't recommend the IUD if we were planning on trying for a second sooner rather than later. So I just went with the regular pill but I wasn't worried about breastfeeding. Easier to stop when we make the decision to try again.

I'm on the mini pill too. Started it only 2 weeks PP as OB said it needs 4 weeks to be effective. I like it and seemed like it had the least # of side effects from the very short amount of googleing I did. And safe for breastfeeding.

I'm not on anything, so take this loosely, but I know a few mamas that have gotten KU on the mini pill. If you're not 100% with it, it's not very effective.
My doc prescribed mini pill while I was breastfeeding. I'm not 100% it was the cause, but I experienced a drop in my supply. My LC said she has met other moms that experienced this. It's possible that I was part of the tiny percentage that it affected my supply. In hindsight with #2 I don't plan on taking anything just in case if would affect supply. It sounds like other mommas on here are successful with BFing while on it, so again it could have just been different with me, I just wouldn't take the chance again. Hope that helps or probably freaked you out sorry. GL!
I know several people with baby number two from the mini pill. It's not enough if you supplement at all or baby starts sleeping longer stretches and nursing left. I have mirena.

We knew we wanted our first 2 close together so I didn't do anything in between other than condoms. When we remembered. We started TTC#2 when #1 was 6 months old. I don't handle hormonal anything (I have enough hormones of my own thanks) except oddly the Nuva ring and the idea of the iud weirds both of us out. Currently we are back to condoms until I wean completely, which probably won't be closer to 2, since I'm not ready to admit we're done to the point of doing permanent measures.
My favorite BC is NuvaRing. I'm not using anything though. We weren't trying to get pregnant, but we weren't preventing. I hadn't been on BC for at least five years, & hadn't gotten pregnant, so I'm hesitant to use anything now.

You are all completely correct about the minipill. I wouldn't try it unless you know you're disciplined enough with it. I always have been (I think I'm slightly OCD) so I have no problem with it and haven't gotten preggo in the 6 months I've been taking it (knock on wood).
So if you're worried you might not take it at the same time every day or have a history with the regular pill of being sucky at it, look into something else.
Before TTC, DH and I were using Creighton (a natural cycle tracking method). We plan to use that again after LO comes because it's very breastfeeding friendly, and I don't like using hormonal BC. It might be something to consider if you're not wanting to use hormones and your OB probably won't know to mention it.
