So last summer dd broke out in hives from something at the park and we had to give her Benadryl. It had the opposite effect on her and made her extra hyper instead of tired. I've heard this happens to certain kids so I wasn't too surprised. Luckily I gave it to her midday so it didn't effect her nighttime sleep.
Fast forward to this week and dd has a sinus infection. Pedi said I could give her Benadryl to help dry up the mucus/relieve pressure and let her sleep/breathe easier. I said I couldn't because she was one of those kids who had the opposite effect. Today after her nap I figured I'd give her some to relieve some discomfort. It knocked her right back out! I gave her another dose tonight and she was asleep in 15 minutes.
So weird how things can change in less than a year!

I know. It's a developmental thing.
DS was an asshole on Benadryl when he was almost 3 and his cousin gave him chicken pox the week before the vaccine was available in the office. Grrr. My grieving parents went to Hilton head for easter and left me with the nieces. DH was in Japan that year. Fun times. DS was like a tiny obnoxious drunk complete with lampshade headgear. By 5 he was sedated by the same dose.
Name brand ramps Charlotte up, but the generic dye free kind seems neutral.
It's weird-my dd is not a reactor to dye. My typical kid? He reacts behaviorally big time!! Both times it was the same bottle so it couldn't have been a reaction to different ingredients.
Oh good, then there is hope for Natalie. Lol. I gave her some a few months ago (at nap time, because it makes kids sleepy!!) and she basically ran around the house jibber jabbering for an hour. I took her to the pedi a couple weeks ago for a rash that turned out to be hives from a virus. The Dr recommended Benadryl and cautioned that it may make her sleepy. When I told him how crazy it made her he prescribed a different antihistamine that luckily (for me, lol) made her sleepy
