I feel like it's kind of early to intro here, but I don't think I fit over at IF anymore. I had two thawed embryos transferred on 1/8. Beta#1 was 408 at 9dp5dt and beta#2 was 1310 at 12dp5dt (doubling time 42.78 hours). I looked up the normal ranges and averages and my betas seem quite high. I don't know if IVF or FET affects the betas. Any thoughts on that?



Next appointment is an ultrasound somewhere 2/4-2/6. Then I'll find out if we have one bean or two (or three or four if anything decided to split :-P).

Those are great betas!! You just can't predict twins from the numbers...can't wait to hear the U/S results;)

Congrats and welcome!! Those are great betas! Betas can be unpredictable on whether there's twins or not. I did a FET and my betas were 52 and 152, and we ended up with twins.

I know betas do not indicate multiple or single. I'm more curious if anyone had additional information on why hcg is high in some cases and not others or how your experience compares. I've been unable to find much. Sorry if that wasn't clear :-).

I just want the numbers to mean more so I get more information. It's two whole weeks before my next data point! *bites nails*

I don't think there's a clear answer for that other than every body is different. You could have implanted earlier? That's my only guess....FX for you!

I know what you mean about wanting numbers to mean more! But, I really am convinced that they don't mean anything. I actually had low betas (71 and then 156 two days later), so I'm usually comforting the ladies who are worried about low betas since Bean is healthy so far and actually large for his gestational age. It seems that low betas could be concerning, but not so much if they're doubling; but everyone thinks high betas are a good thing!

I agree with IFinTN--that maybe it has to do with implanting.

Check out www.betabase.info --> the twin HCGs do seem to be higher on average, but as you can see, the ranges are huge for healthy single and twin pregnancies!

lolasky I've looked at betabase (several times) and came to the same conclusion you stated. It's gonna drive me nuts having no data for two weeks. I guess it's preparation for when appointments are only once a month. *sigh* You'd think I'd be happy about the reprieve. I'll work on that.

And I agree about the beta numbers - I'm convinced they don't mean anything. Mine were low (63 at 8dp5dt, 301 4 days later). I think it depends on both when implantation occurred, when you test relative to that, and then, yes, some people in general have higher hcg levels - that's why there is such a wide range on all of the websites. My numbers were always on the lower side in the range, for every beta I've had drawn (I've had 6 - 2 with my loss and 4 this time around).

Ooh, does anyone know if there is a correlation between estradiol/progesterone levels during regular cycles and hcg during pregnancy? That'd be neat to know! (I already tried searching for that a bit, to no avail.)
