Are you saying you want a change pad on top of the dresser? We did that with Spencer, never had a change table, but we stopped using the change pad recently because he is such a squirmy bug that it's too much of an effort to change him on the dresser. We change him on the floor now.
I love the idea of a Montessori style room!! I think it might be hard to keep her in her bed though, you will definitely need some kind of bed rail. If you don't get ones high enough she will eventually learn how to crawl over the rail and roam free in her room. She might be a little too young for that now...? Just my 2 cents, but what do I know?
I have a dresser for LO that's got a place for the changing pad on top. We've used it maybe 4 times for baby changes. I really regret not listening to people when they said I wouldn't even need a baby changing table. They're right. I usually just throw down a bassinet pad on our bed or on the floor.
My LO's not mobile yet, but for my piece of mind I'd prefer a baby jail crib so that I know he's not wandering out of bed at night. (I know that'll change when he gets to the point where he can go all Houdini on us, but luckily we're not there anytime soon!)
You can get a crib for fairly cheap. You can even get the kind that transition to toddler beds for not much $. We bought a crib for DD because DS wasn't ready to transition out of his, but we didn't want to go crazy with what we got her since we plan on her using DS's toddler bed when she's ready to transition. I know the one we got could transition to toddler, we just didn't get the rails because we won't need them, so it's a straight crib for us.
Also, DS still gets changed on the changing pad on his dresser at 2.5 years old. Now that he's potty training and can "dress" himself, it's not every change, but it's at least 50% of them.
I vote new crib. For mbug now and then if you have a second you can use it. I think if I had just a mattress on the floor my DS would be all over the place. Or could you get away with just using a pack and play if you don't want to buy a new crib?

This is what I did. I bought a PNP but haven't transitioned her to it yet. I anticipate many nights of screaming in the future. I really want my sleep and bed back....3 years later.
If it were me, I'd buy a crib. It's nice to have baby containment in multiple rooms. We slept on the floor the other night and it was a nightmare trying to keep her in the right place. I can't imagine trying to keep a baby on the bed.

I second (eta: third? Twelfth?) buying a crib. My DD needs spacial awareness and falls asleep clutching the crib bars.
I've been using a pad on a dresser for a while. She's wiggly but way worse on the floor. When she's on the floor there are things that she's sees that interest her. I'd be too worried about her rolling and peeing on the carpet.

I would buy a crib too, the type that transition can be bought very cheap. Mine were each about $100 on clearance. DS was in his until after 2, having him contained was awesome. The girls both have cribs that will transition to a toddler bed (one was DS's, we had to buy him a toddler bed because of the close ages and twins), and I am keeping them as cribs as long as I can get away with it. Then they'll be toddler beds.
@iheartmyshiba so cute, but I'm team crib and changing table.
For us, we just need to know that she's safely contained while we sleep. We also use our changing table for every diaper change at home, and I can't imagine life without it!
I vot buy a crib but no changing table. Instead buy a dresser and add this changing pad on top of it. It's amazing super soft comes in a couple of colors impermeable to fluids and wipes clean...you don't have to have extra sheets on it or extra laundry (but I did put down a flat diaper when it was cold). We had it down stairs for the longest time so and put it on our bed for middle of the day changes when DD was sleeping in our room.
