@notyourmom, the new seat I got for her is supposed to be a fairly well cushioned, she has been in this seat for a few longer trips before with no problems. it just seems that the taller she gets the less she likes to be in the seat. Of course it ay just be the age. I would really like to keep her RF for a few more months, but I cant take the screaming!!
Do you play music in the car? E will scream if I don't have music playing for her. She once screamed the entire way home on a 15 hour road trip. I was losing my mind!
I always have sound on, either radio or even the TV at home. I cant stand pure silence, I just don't like to talk much
Then it's age. These kids are limber. And not to sound cruel but who the fuck cares if her feet are comfortable when words like "internal decapitation" "paralization " (I think my auto correct fucked that up) and "death" are involved. Her/your short term comfort vs. long term quality of life- or life period.

But why? The AAP recommends until age 2 and NHSTA recommends until they reach the weight and height limits. I just can't think of a good reason why you would go against those recs considering they are there for the child's safety. I'm genuinely curious what your rationale is.
Yeah I have to agree that leg comfort is way less of a concern than all the major safety concerns of forward facing. I sing to LO when she gets cranky in the car seat. Calms her right down.
Please take it from someone who has seen WAY too many kids in PICU post MVA and it's HORRENDOUS. low speed, high speed, it's awful!
If by any chance the reason you have your baby Ff is due to finances, and I'm not saying that is the reason, but if so, check your county hospital for a car seat program. RF for safety!! Please!

To add onto this- MH has sat in many uncomfortable seat positions in the car to extend RF- event in our Fiesta. Kids lives trumped his and mine every time.
I kinda feel if you FF knowing all the facts and you still choose to FF you don't care about your kids life..
T does not like car rides and after 20 minutes it's mostly fussy. I don't think it's a comfort thing, but I have no idea if she'd be happier forward facing. Although, sometimes I have thoughts of crashing the car, because she won't shut the fuck up - but, I guess rear facing is safer if I'm gonna lose my shit.
I agree with FBW - this is an age thing, not a comfort thing. Kids are very limber, they don't feel as uncomfortable as we do all scrunched up. The issue, IME, is that they just want out of the chair entirely. DD, who is almost 4, still loses her shit after 30-40 minutes in the car and she's been FF for 2 years. She's got plenty of leg room. She just doesn't want to be contained.

Yeah, when DD was RF in DH's car, I was practically sitting in the glove compartment.

I had to read this 3 times to understand then I laughed, lol
I'm curious too @kellbell I know you're well educated well read and have multiple kids.
I adamantly disagree with it and think it's a bad decision for many of the reasons cited here.
@zabdeela it's an age thing. Ignore them and they stop they're pushing boundaries and learning about emotions. They're super limber. My Lo sits w her legs all crunched up worse than the car and sometimes sleeps in positions I think are worse

Yeah, when DD was RF in DH's car, I was practically sitting in the glove compartment.
Both mine are RF (DD is 2.5), and we bought a compact convertible car seat so that she could stay RF longer in our tiny Focus - but there's a point when the relative risk of serious injury is far greater for a driver/passenger sitting too far forward than for a child n a FF car seat (a point lost on CSFTL).
I'm a strong proponent of ERF, and it's usually possible with a modest car seat budget and some juggling of seating positions (eg, an adult passenger may be sitting in the backseat), but please don't grossly endanger yourself or your spouse in the process.

@lovethatdirtywater, jtizzay, rather than ignore your questions I'll just state we have made the decision for this moment to forward face. We actually need to buy a new convertible seat that will fit dh's truck so he can be rear facing. At the moment the one we have (we have tried two) will not fit.
@kellbell to the extent it's helpful the car seat lady has a matrix online of car seats that work best in different model cars. I know not fitting can be really tough ESP when you get into multiple car seat. And fx you add another asap
For the record I am still rear facing, will just deal with it until she is older. I am ready for her to climb into the jeep by herself. I have so much to carry out with me in the morning.
My selfishness will not interfere with her safety. But all the video's I see are for frontal crashes, what if you are the one getting hit from behind, wont the same thing happen as if she was FF? the things I think about. I am a cautious driver so I almost think I am more likely to get rear-ended by a student farting around on their phone then me actually hitting someone...
zandeela, I've got no data to back this up but I think rear end crashes tend to be lower in speed because they are often from when people don't stop in time, but they are usually slowing down and trying to stop. Front end crashes tend to be sudden events where the driver loses control, often at highway speeds. That seems why RF would be overall safer.
We will be rear face as long as possible. If she's 3 and still fits rear facing so be it.
+1
+ another one.
He won't know the difference so I don't plan to flip him until I have to. Long car rides one of us just sits back with him. I read a lot about the changes in the spinal cord these first few years & that has convinced me it's not worth the risk. At all.
