back from 1st MFM appt with a ?

Sorry I am so full of questions. Thank you for always being so helpful!

I just had my 1st MFM appt for my 20 week u/s. The babies looked great with baby girl weighing 14oz and baby boy 13oz. They did notice that baby girl's umbilical cord isn't attached to the center of the placenta but rather to the side. He said it normally does not cause a problem but can affect her growth (even though she is bigger right now) and heart rate and that we have to come back in 4 weeks to monitor it. I started asking more about it and he assured me that normally it is fine and that it could have even been the angle that they could see but I still feel nervous.

Have any of your had similar experiences?

No experience with an off centered cord but a nice plus to twins is the extra monitoring. They should be able to catch any issues before problems happen. :-)

Thank you, ladies! The MFM seemed pretty laid back about it and said he didn't see it becoming an issue but you know how fun it is to stress yourself out, ha!

There is nothing worse than when doctors bring up a concern but are then laid back! Ditto to everyone else. With the extra monitoring they will have a pretty good handle on it moving forward.

Baby A has a marginal umbilical insertion which is what you are describing! They keep and eye on it, but my doctor told me not to worry about it so I've tried not to.
Baby is measuring in the 75th% right now- hopefully that continues. Baby B is bigger but I don't think that has anything to do with it!

My baby B (the boy) has this, and he also has a 2 vessel cord. The MFM did a fetal echo on them which is standard with the 2vc and structurally everything is perfect with his heart. Because of the placement they said is heart is slightly tilted, and the veins/arteries to his liver are slightly askew, but it's perfectly normal given the cord placement and will fix itself at birth when the cord is cut. He is smaller than his sister but not by much at all anymore, and that has more to do with the 2vc than anything else.

chiwifey, with DD I had a marginal cord insertion. They kept an eye on it but she came a bit early and weighed over 8 lbs! I know its hard not to worry... and I hate when they tell you something then tell you not to worry!
