April Book Club: Me Before You Chapters 15-21

Hi ladies! Sorry this is so late, I’m out of town for work and wasn’t able to get to this!

How are you feeling about the book at this point?

A few thoughts to consider:

How do you feel about Will getting Lou’s dad a job? Why does she feel like he is buying her freedom?

What do you think of Patrick’s offer to have Lou move in?

What do you think of the argument Will’s Mother and Lou had in the Café?

How are you feeling about the book at this point?
I’m still not really loving it, I’m into the storyline but the idea of this is bothering me, I feel like Lou is being selfish, she is clearly falling for Will and is only thinking about herself by prolonging his life.

How do you feel about Will getting Lou’s dad a job? Why does she feel like he is buying her freedom?
I thought this was sweet, I do see where she is coming from that he is buying her freedom in a way, but it really will allow her to feel less relied on by her family.

What do you think of Patrick’s offer to have Lou move in?
Patrick is jealous and is only asking Lou to move in because he is afraid he is losing her. He is still a dick

What do you think of the argument Will’s Mother and Lou had in the Café?
I’m not sure what I think, maybe it’s because I don’t like Patrick so I don’t want her to be living with him either, I’m not sure. In one way I think she has no right to tell Lou what she should be doing in her personal life, nut on another I get it and she doesn’t want this to upset Will in any way. On the other hand, I don’t understand why Mrs. Traynor is so cold to Lou all the time when she is trying to help her son and she must see that he has some feelkngs for her.

Anything else you want to discuss?
I forgot to mention the assault that happened to Lou when she was younger and how this is keeping her back. I think this is what holds her in this little bubble she lives in, she wants to be safe and in a world that she knows.

I actually started this last night and read it through until 4:30. Kind of regretting that today.



How are you feeling about the book at this point?

    -I feel a little misleading answering this since I finished it but at that point I was really annoyed with Lou. I knew where things were headed, and figured how the book was going to end, and just wanting to reach the conclusion.

How do you feel about Will getting Lou’s dad a job? Why does she feel like he is buying her freedom?

    - Because he is. He's completely white knighting her as part of his trying to get her to actually live her life thing. I mean it was a nice gesture, and people get jobs all the time because of "knowing the right people" and it's not like it's a huge glamorous job, but he's definitely just trying to make her life easier, in my opinion.


What do you think of Patrick’s offer to have Lou move in?

    - Obviously he's jealous and just trying to not lose her even though I don't really think either one of them wants to be in the relationship anymore. They just kind of are because it's comfortable and known.


What do you think of the argument Will’s Mother and Lou had in the Café?

    - I mean she's out of line bringing it up but honestly I was yelling at Lou for the same thing in my head. I really do not like her. She's a self centered, woe is me, annoying child.


Anything else you want to discuss?
I don't really get the random switching POVs. I don't really think it offers anything new up to the reader. I also really dislike Lou's entire family, really. In fact, there aren't really any characters I like too much other than Will and Nathan.

I totally agree with the random switching of character's POV, it doesn't make any sense and they pick them randomly.  It would have been interesting to have these POV's in there if they did it more regularly and where/when it made sense, but i think it was just kind of done poorly.

How are you feeling about the book at this point?
I really love this book so far. I love the story, and the complexity of the decision and motivations for each.

How do you feel about Will getting Lou’s dad a job? Why does she feel like he is buying her freedom?
I thought this was completely innocent and sweet and that Lou was reading too far into it. If I were Lou's friend and in a position to get her father a job, I would.

What do you think of Patrick’s offer to have Lou move in?
Just based on jealousy and refusal to admit the relationship has been over for a while.

What do you think of the argument Will’s Mother and Lou had in the Café?
Lou is a little too dense for me in regards to her feelings and Will's feelings.

I will say that as much as I'm enjoying the book, I'm slightly annoyed at how predictable it is. I'm 75% of the way through and so far, everything is happening as I predicted. We'll see. I really like the book, but part of me is rolling my eyes too.
