Hey guys I am from the August 15 BMB and I wanted to get some advice on pumps. My insurance will cover the Medela PISA, Ameda Purely Yours, and the Medela Freestyle at additional cost. I will be a SAHM. I was looking at amazon reviews and Medela seems to be a front runner but there was discussion of milk getting backed up in the tubes. Has anyone had experience with that? Which if these would you recommend (if any)? Thanks for any help in advance.
packmomma Medela > Ameda IMO, so I would eliminate the Purely Yours from consideration. If you are going to be a SAHM, I am going to assume that you are going to try to mainly breastfeed. In that case, I would say you should go with the PISA. The Freestyle is more convenient IMO but if you aren't going to be an EP'er and aren't going to be a working mom, I don't think paying for the upgrade to the Freestyle is going to be worth it for you.
I've personally never experienced a significant problem with milk going into tubing in my pump, but you could either sterilize the tubing or buy a new set of tubing if you notice mold growing in it (I think it runs about $10-$15).
I have the PISA and haven't had any issues with it. I did get extra of everything just have on hand and extra tubes from the hospital was $9. I didn't know sterilizing them was an option. Do you just boil them like everything else Widget123

I wouldn't put tubing in a pot of boiling water, personally. I don't know if you are familiar with Medela's micro steam bags (that you put in the microwave)?
