So I've been looking around, local and online. I've begged for information in a group or 3 on fb. And not getting reasons as to why a specific brand was their goto. I'm on my 5th and last baby. I want to now use cloth, and hubby doesnt. Any help? Pros/cons. Locations to buy.
My H was much more open to the idea when I found a CD service in our area-they provide the prefolds and pick up/wash/deliver new ones once a week. It doesn't help with the budget but definitely with your time and peace of mind for the "green" aspect.
Specific reasons for go to brands will vary by user. They might have a baby with skinny legs, or chunky legs and a certain brand fits better The baby might be tall or short Heavy wetter Some might be about convenience (all in one, no stuffing or folding) Some might purely enjoy certain brands for their designs It's really hard to say what their reasons are.

Wow.. they think of everything now. I need to look into this!

3rd and last baby here, we are going to try it out for the first time. DH was a bit freaked out when I showed them to him after him suggesting we do it. I got a good deal on 20 bum genius pockets from a friend that were hardly used so we are going to attempt them at home only and use disposables for outtings in public because he plain refuses to carry dirty diapers around with us, and frankly so do I.
As smilz4782 said, if any of those scenarios arise where these dont work out I will just resell and go disposable, I wont stress myself out changing brands or types.
Edited to add: from my perspective on convenience being a must, pockets and all in ones seem to be the easiest route.

I'm going to try out the Alva brand. I have a few friends who say they like them. But you do have to get better inserts. The ones they come with are useless. So I might get some charcoal inserts and layer with FST.

Like Smilz said, the reasons for their go to diapers have to do with their own individual baby and that baby's proportions. They didn't have a go to until they tried a bunch of diapers. That is why prefolds are popular for the newborn phase, you just fold them or tighten them a certain way to get a good fit.
Green Mountain Diapers have very popular prefolds because they hold up well. Osocozy is another popular brand that is available in B&M stores, but they are more rectangular than GMD. We had a stash of half GMD and half Osocozy for DS and he grew out of the Osocozy first because they didn't fold around the front as much because of their shape.
As far as covers, I recommend starting with Thirsties because they are pretty middle of the road size wise. Everything about their proportions is average, so it should fit. There are quite a few brands of covers for smaller sized newborns, but I don't remember them.
What are his reasons? Are you going to work or SAH? We can help you fight this
I am not a SAHM. I work full time office hours, I really wanted to try it for when I'm at home. I'm not like totally green, but I do like using better green products and such. His reasons are that it will be too much of a hassle, clean up will be a disaster and I don't know anything about cloth diapering. Which I don't. but I wanted to at least try.
Cloth diaper 101 videos on youtube have been a godsend. I'm finally feeling a bit more confident about it. Kellyscloset seems to be a main online buying hub. Amazon has a few too.
Seriously, I am more looking into the pros and cons for specific brands. I wanted to do Alva but I have a friend who said that she and many of her CD friends are not for that brand for numerous reasons.
But to be honest I don't want to spend a shit ton of money only to end up going to disposables.
No I will not be a SAHM.. Yet LOL But my schedule and boss allows for a lot of flexibility when it comes to when I can and cannot work. I have a home schooled kid, so my hours are dependent on when he is learning.
As for the husband, I told him he can suck it. If I am pushing yet another of his spawn out of my vag then cloth diapers it is LOL
ETA: I have also been looking at GroVia and Thirsties
You should really check out the cloth diaper board! You questioning is kind of vague and they'll probably give you the "different babies work with different diapers" thing as well. BUT, they have tons of info that would be useful to you. Also, it's perfectly fine to use 'sposies and cloth. You don't have to be 100% dedicated to either. Personally I think it's kind of genius for every mom to have a few CDs on hand for those times when you use the last disposable and didn't realize you are out. No thank you to 4 AM trips to CVS

You can totally do both! Clean up (especially the first six months before food) is no big deal, after solids come in to play poop is stinky and gross like adult poop, but we use flush able liners vs scraping or spraying. We save a ton on diapers. A ton. We keep sposies around for diaper rash and travel times but I prefer cloth! Even DH prefers it!!
All-in-one diapers were great. All brands have pluses and cons depending on your baby's build. I'd suggest not stocking up on one particular brand but try out a few to see what works for you and your baby best. Double gussets are worth the extra money! I loved bumgenious 4.0 and lovelypocketdiapers brand was worth the cheaper price. Good luck!

Glowbug diapers have double gusset pockets and absolutely adorable prints! They usually are just sold in big packages but on Facebook there's a bst and a coop where you can buy them individually. I'm expecting a bunch of their botanist prints any day now, and I upgraded to bamboo inserts because I'm not hearing good things about microfiber.
I'll check out that board! I am just trying to ask around without getting super overwhelmed with it ( which I'm not going to lie, I already am). You guys have always given me fantastic feedback so I thought I'd try here first

Me either, I know I am going to use bamboo just because all my kids have been heavy pee kids. And I don't want to risk it.
9 years ago I used Fuzibunz (spelling?) for my daughter. They had the inserts and the snaps allowed them to grow with her. I didn't start until she was 4 months old though. I bought them new for 14 dollars each and sold them after we were done for 12 each! I've so far decided not to use cloth this time because I'm working but who knows. I loved that brand and would recommend them. I never tried another brand to compare and my daughter was not a heavy wetter though so they might not work for everyone.
We have lavas I bought from the website itself (4 of them) and are almost a year old and no issues so far!! I use them as overnight diapers with a thick charcoal bamboo insert and a thin prefold stuffed in (the prefold absorbs quickly and the CBI more slowly so two CBI leaked sometimes) Lavas=alvas

We use CDs for DS and plan to use them again for the new LO. I followed recommendations of friends and tried out several different things in the beginning, rather than stocking up on any one thing. As others mentioned, some of it may depend on your baby's size, how chubby his/her legs are, whether the baby is a heavy wetter and a lot of other things. For example, DH and I have loved Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size diapers, but I know other people who truly hate FB.
We ended up settling on pocket diapers. I also tried Thirsties covers with refolds when we first started out, but DH likes the pockets a lot better and I was just happy it helped him get on board with CDing. We wash our own diapers and now it is not a big deal, but it was a bit of a trial and error process at first since we live in an area with really hard water. I'm really glad that we stuck with it, though, especially now that we are hopefully about to be able to use most of what I bought for DS all over again for our little girl. I have actually been able to sell the stuff that we didn't really like or use on cloth diaper trader.
As I mentioned above, we like Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size pocket diapers (I wasn't as big of a fan of their One Size diapers), so about half of our current stock is those and the other half mostly Bum Genius One Size pocket diapers. I also received a couple of Kawaii pocket diapers for free with a large purchase through Kelly's Closet and they work well too and are very soft. DS has been a heavy wetter, so I ended up replacing most of the inserts that came with my diapers with hemp ones (mostly BabyKicks Premium). These wouldn't necessarily be favorite choices for anyone who is looking for the most economical options -- for us, CDing is more of an eco thing and so we focused on convenience and what worked best for us. However, we've definitely saved money even using more expensive diapers and not using a diaper service for laundry.
A couple of other points -- we use Huggies Overnites at night time because, after trying a bunch of different inserts and insert combinations, we could never really keep DS from wetting out of them. I think that was more of an issue with him and his heavy wetting, since I know other people who successfully CD at night. DH had requested early on that we use disposables when we travel and are out and about, so you really don't have to commit to one approach or the other. We waited until DS was around 10 weeks to start CDing, so I never bought nb diapers. I think this time, with more CDing experience, I'd like to start a little earlier, but there is something to be said about not having to deal with the diaper laundry when you are getting settled in with a new baby and feel like you are changing a diaper every time you turn around.
autumn907 - If you have the time and inclination, this woman reviewed 25 different CDs. Her reviews are thorough and she even has a rating system. Of course, she is just one person and other people will surely have different experiences from the brands she tested, but I'm a FTM planning to use cloth diapers, and I needed some sort of reference point!
