I think it should be against the law to put a kid on the back of a motorcycle. I mean we are supposed to rear face them for as long as possible now. Keep them in a five point harness for years, eventually move them to a booster for another couple of years. But no one bats an eye at a four year old harnessed to his mom on the back of a motorcycle ?? I don't get it.

I think it is? At least here. I'm pretty sure you have to be 15. If not, then I agree it should be illegal!
nannygoat atleast it is illegal somewhere. It's not here and she aunt always takes her kid for cruises because she's a "safe driver" every family member I've ever had that died or was seriously injured in a motorcycle was hit by somebody, it didn't matter if they were a safe driver.

Oh, wow. I'm so sorry. I agree with the safe driver thing. You can't control other people on the roads!
Wow I can't believe putting a kid on a motorcycle is a thing.
I really don't understand the idea of breastfeeding at all costs or letting your child suffer other medical issues for the sake of breastfeeding. Maybe there are doctors and nurses out there who push formula too hard but I never encountered anything remotely close to that. We supplemented when DS was in the NICU and he got to come home faster because of formula and now we ebf and everyone is just fine.

CT fail!
My UO I really dislike anecdotes that are used as evidence. "Well I knew a girl once........and that's why you should never whistle on the third of April while doing laundry." Or conversely "I've never experienced .........so it doesn't exist." I don't mind the anecdotes themselves- that part is interesting, but I side eye the second part where it somehow translates to some universal fact. If one time occurrences = generalizable facts, science would be super easy and research would not exist.
This is probably not super UO but emergency rooms are the actual worst. Like I would avoid going there at any cost.
*trigger warning* my aunt (she's like my second mom) got in a really bad car accident today. It was storming and she was in a four vehicle accident involving a semi and her car slammed into the concrete wall. Thank goodness she is okay....a few broken bones and a lot of bruises, but she is okay. Her car is completely totaled. She was taken to the hospital that I work at which I was thankful for, I literally ran through the hospital to the ER to see her. I didn't even recognize her when I got there because she was so banged up and bloody, then we both cried. I'm really glad I was able to be there for her but it was tough regardless.
Sorry for the DD, today has been rough.
I'm not love titting it because of what happened. Just because you said you were glad to be there with her. Thoughts and prayers to your aunt and your family.

Say more about this. I feel like there's a story there and I like stories.
Haha well my examples up there were made up, but it really stemmed from friends/ family reaction to my planned home birth. It would go something like "well during my birth my body betrayed me and x, y and z (terrible things) happened. If I had a homebirth my child and I would have died. That's why homebirths are unsafe. You should rethink it." I actually had 4 different people tell me this. My husband works with probabilities and stats for a living. We knew the homebirth stats for deaths and hospital transfers and we choose it. Quantitative research FTW

OMG, how scary! I'm glad she's ok and I hope she has a good recovery. Yikes.

Access to the Google and all of the official research it provides, coupled with anecdotal evidence of questionable validity makes people extra assholey.

I don't think you're a terrorist calvinfoster but that quote is a bit preachy. Mother's Day is commercial and contrived, and has the capacity to make other people feel left out- but what holiday doesn't? I just don't think it's any more problematic than any other holiday.
gradschoolmama, true. Anne Lamott can be overwrought. I just saw that on Facebook this morning and it more accurately reflects my feelings toward the holiday than not, but you're right. it's a bit overstated and I am probably less caught up in who mother's day leaves out than I am concerned with being allergic to sentimentality. Especially when I feel like it's manufactured sentimentality.
basically I'm just the least sentimental person you'll ever meet. Mother's day is just the tip of the iceberg for stuff that makes me roll my eyes
Totally agree of the manufactured sentimental crap. It is definitely just a money making venture.
