So I have been lurking mostly, but DD is in need of prayers. I noticed a growth in the center of her upper back a couple weeks ago. I brought it to the attention of her pedi. He recommended to have it looked at by a general surgeon just to be safe. We went to the surgeon's office this morning. He said it is most likely benign but because it is growing relatively quickly, it needs to be removed. Once it is removed we will wait 7-10 days for pathology, which will tell us if it is cancer or not. The chances it is cancer are low, which as a healthcare provider I know, but the irrational mommy in me is freaking out. I'm also worried about my little nugget going under general anesthesia and being prone while intubated. I have first hand experience with seeing prone airways go bad, and it's a terrifying to think about it happening to her. I'm trying really hard to stay positive and calm, but my hormonal, overprotective mommy self is having a tough time with it. I ugly cried in the car with the baby after the appointment. We will find out soon when surgery will be. They are trying to free a slot up for her, because the surgeon wants to remove it sooner rather than later. Please think of/pray for my sweet little girl. Thank you.
**surgery is scheduled for the morning of Feb 16th. He is having a plastic surgeon coordinate with him, and that's the earliest date they could coordinate. Thanks again for all the support.
How scary! I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Lots of thoughts, prayers and hugs! Is it possible for you to meet/talk with the anesthesiologist first? Is there anyway they can do it sidelying? Just a thought.

We are checking into meeting with the anesthesiologist ahead of time. I asked about side lying but it needs to be a horizontal incision and the surgeon thinks closure will be most successful prone and less chance of irregularity/scarring that way. It's right in between the top of her shoulder blades, so it will show frequently when she is older. It's going to be 2.5-3inches big on her poor little body. So we want it to look good when she's older and wants to wear tank tops, etc. Is that vain?

Not at all! She will be grateful for that later on, plus what's the point in making an incision larger than it needs to be?
Lots of prayers for her and your family. Please keep us posted on the results.
