So far: rice cereal, green beans, carrots, sweet potato, peas, apples. Pears are next because they're i the pantry. I don't make my own; I generally buy Gerber Stage 1. She's gotten the hang of eating from a spoon quickly. I generally offer solids once daily right now, and she'll most often eat the whole stage 1 container.

What method are you using (purees/BLW)? We've been doing purees and oatmeal, but I do plan to do a sort of modified BLW when he hits 6 months.
How often do you feed LO? We do purees each evening before his last bottle. I also do oatmeal cereal on the weekend morning and during the weekday mornings if we have enough time. This is in addition to his 4 8-oz bottles he gets each day.
What foods do they like best? For the purees, we've done the Plum Organics brand. He has loved sweet potato, butternut squash, and carrots. He didn't love peas but we're going to try them again tonight. We did peaches last night and he liked it but kept making a silly face...once I tasted it myself, I realized it was just a bit tart, so his face was a reaction to the tartness. For the oatmeal we use the Happy Bellies organic + DHA brand.
Any changes in LO? Not really. He's been particularly pleasant lately, which I suppose could be do to incorporating more solids, but he's in a sunny period according to the Wonder Weeks chart, so it could just be that.
LO is 5 months old and we started purees a couple of weeks ago. So far it's been carrots and squash. He loves both. I was feeding him half a jar, but last night he ate the whole thing and acted like he wanted more. We feed him his "food" while we are eating dinner. I think we may start a combination of purees and BLW at closer to 6 months. I would like LO to get a taste of a big variety of tastes and textures. And no change here either. Except that he now expects it when we sit down at the table and put him in his highchair. He hasn't slept any more than he did before.
We tried broccoli first which he got so excited about, then we did some banana. We have actually stopped doing solids now because, although he acts interested and is really good about eating off the spoon, I noticed he would have really fussy nights after solids. He has always had at least one poop around 4 or 5am but he stopped on the nights we gave him solids. He would have several wake ups and he would sound like he was trying to poop but then he would start screaming. After two nights like that, I stopped solids and he has gone back to at least one poop every night and we all have a much better time. My husband and I agreed to wait until he is five months now and then try again. It will give his digestive system a little more time to mature and we weren't really in a rush anyway since he is still doing great with breast feeding.

Just mashed potatoes and mashed beans for my LO so far. She loves them. We tried some avocado last night...that didn't go well haha. I've noticed she sleeps better at night and as long as she gets plenty of breast milk during the day she poops just fine.
LOs are almost 6 months. We have been doing solids consistently for about a month. Started with oatmeal, and have since tried sweet potato, squash, banana, and peas, pears and apples. I offer at "lunch" after they have a bottle. Only in the last 2-3 days have they really started eating. They take 1-2 oz of veggie or fruit and 1-2 tbsp (dry) of oatmeal. If they keep up this level of intake I'll start offering at supper too.
The folks at the health department and our pedi's office said we could start letting her sample stuff after 4 months. So to celebrate being 4 months old today, I let her try a nibble of my mashed potatoes. She had been staring at our meal with more intensity than usual, so we thought to give it a go. She loved it!
We're not going to start introducing solids regularly until 6 months, but it was good to see her curious and enjoy something new!
What method are you using (purees/BLW)? I'm not really sure yet...I make sweet potatoes for my dogs, run through the mixer and that's what I've been feeding LO, both with spoon and letting him grab with his hands. Not really sure what makes BLW so different-I'm letting LO tell me if he wants to eat food and if he wants spoon or grab on his own. He's also helped himself to avocados off my plate. He does get excited when he sees his spoon and bowl, so I think he grasps the concept. I'm only giving like 1oz at a time, he doesn't seem interested beyond that. Although he does think feeding the dog his sweet potatoes is great fun...
How often do you feed LO? Once a day, but not necessarily everyday...still kinda new.
What foods do they like best? He's only had sweet potatoes and avocados. I did let him suck on part of my bagel once. He has no interest in rice or oatmeal cereal. I was thinking of mixing oatmeal with bananas or applesauce. Someone posted they do that, and I meant to ask how the go about it.
Any changes in LO? Pooping more! LO has been on an every 2-3 day schedule but when he has sweet potatoes he poops at least once, mostly 2x a day.
I wish we were also including LO's ages. I'd be very interested to see age and how often LOs are eating solids and how many different types. My goal is to try one at a time, a few times, before adding something new. But I'm just getting started, so we'll see how it goes!

eliz77 one food at a time for a length of time is actually what our pediatrician recommended. She mentioned that it takes a few tries sometimes before LO will decide if he likes something or not. And if he develops an allergic reaction after trying something new we can know what caused it.
This thread is just what I needed to read! Can I ask what the BLW method is? I haven't read the whole thread yet but I will! We've started with cereals we did rice for a week she absolutley hated that, and now were working on oatmeal. The drs told us try all the cereals first then try veggies and then the fruits so I've just been following what the drs say! I only give it to her at her before her second feeding of the day she doesn't eat enough to skip the feeding
liljsmomma I am by no means an expert but I'm going by my experience with my LO. First, I've read that BLW shouldn't be started until around 6 month if LO seems ready. As far as cereal goes, our pediatrician recommended we start with rice or oatmeal for a couple of weeks. This was at LO's 4 month appt. We did rice cereal for like 4 days. Even though he was showing all the signs that he was ready I don't think he really was because he hated it so we held off for about 2 weeks. Then I tried rice cereal with formula and a little carrots mixed in. What a difference. He is a great eater now and we have gradually reduced the amount of cereal/formula mixer in with the puree. We haven't reduced the amount of formula he gets by bottle per day even though he eats baby food now.
I guess my recommendation would be to try what you think might be right for your lo, using what the Dr said as a guideline. If you're interested in BLW, check out the thread on it. It has a lot of good info. If you think lo just doesn't like the flavor of the cereals, maybe put a little puree in it? Or just give it some time? It might just take little time.
aleys628 and @txaggie08 thanks for the info I'm going to try those suggestions thanks I'm always just worried about introducing something to soon! I'm one of those worried about everything moms lol
LO is 4 1/2 months old. We have been feeding rice cereal only since monday. I feed him one tablespoon mixed with bm and water. I feed after his "dinner feeding" during the week and earlier on the weekend. He loves it and is getting the hang of eating. I will wait another week to try purees. He has been pooping more but no other major changes.I have let him suck on my food to learn textures except anything with major allergens. The double stuffed oreo may have been too much. Lol
We've tried: hard boiled egg yolk, deviled egg filing, coconut butter, guacamole, strawberries in mesh feeder, and doughnut glaze off my fingers.
I'm not at all regular with introducing solids. Never was with my older kids until they were 10+ months. I basically just give a taste here, a little of that there, but never "let's sit and eat this jar of baby food."
@kc295905, do you have a purée "cookbook"? Or are you just going to wing it? I'm kind of grossed out at the baby food, too. I think we will be taking the same route as you and do a homemade purées and BLW mixture.
Did any of you not start with rice/grain cereals? I am just curious because I don't love the idea of starting with cereals, but I'm not sure what else to start with. We have their 6 month appointment today and the dr. said we would talk about starting solids then. So I am going to ask her as well, but would also love to hear more about your experiences.

The main concept of BLW is letting LO fed themselves bc by 6mo they normally can or want to try. They are able to learn when they're full on their own and get a variety of foods and tastes by eating what you're eating, no need to buy anything special for them. They hold the spoon, they pick up handheld "pieces" of food until the pincer grasp is developed. Check out the thread for more info! We're starting around 6mo or when LO can sit up on her own, no cereals but probably avocado wedge, steamed carrot sticks, banana chunks, then more experimenting! So excited! From what I've heard is that even if it doesn't make it to their mouth its fine, it'll take some learning and playing around first.

We gave LO a very small amount of oatmeal the past 2 days, 1 tsp of oats mixed with about 1 Tbsp of breast milk. On Saturday she seemed a little puzzled by the whole thing, but yesterday I think she liked it more. It seemed like she understood what she was supposed to do a little better, and less ended up on the bib.

We won't be starting solids with DD2 yet but with DD1, we started with fruits and veggies. Her first food was squash.

We started with broccoli and then banana. The boy loved both of them. My husband isn't big on the idea of feeding cereal just to be feeding something. He very much wanted to start with healthy foods. Brady really loved the food, he would lunge towards the spoon and drag it towards his mouth, so when we try again we will go straight to veggies and fruits again.
We tried rice cereal twice without much interest and tonight let him eat puréed avocado. He LOVED it. I had to cut him off. Now after I'm sort of worried that I let him have too much eeek. We are 5 months 1 week.
Well, pears are very unpopular in my house! H and I aren't fans and LO isn't either. I gave it a couple days and while he will eat, he has an unhappy face and eats like he is humoring me. I brought out the sweet potatoes today and he was SO happy! He also had a little bit of my avocado at dinnertime, which is another big him. I made sangria for dinner and let him suck on an apple (not sangria soaked apple!). I bought some bananas so may mash one up for tomorrow.

For me the purpose of adding cereal is iron. After 6 months iron reserves deplete in bf babies. However if you are ff I believe iron is already added.
path75 Yes! I should have put my baby's age, he is only 19 weeks so his iron doesn't need to start being replaced yet! After six months we will definitely start oatmeal for the iron, my husband just wanted to give him something that would help him explore healthy tastes now since we were mostly doing it for fun and exploration purposes anyway.
So far we've just tried a little bit of rice cereal... DD gets the concept of the spoon, but she threw it all back up She also has a cold, so thinking we'll hold off a little bit until she feels better.
