Hey mamas! I promise to get caught up this week. I miss you all!! We have Miles' follow up with the pedi urologist. I'm hoping she will discontinue the antibiotics he's been on since January. Last time, she asked about the frequency of his BMs and insisted he was constipated since he didn't poop daily. And wanted him to start Miralax. I explained the whole breast milk / little waste / not every baby poops daily thing, and she was super rude and basically said she wouldn't talk to me about it, but to his regular pedi. Bitch!
The interaction totally stressed me out, though. Miles will go anywhere from once a week to twice a day. He's not a consistent daily, every other day, or even once a week pooper. I've made myself worry I'm worried she's right. His poop is always the "desired consistency". His belly is never hard, and he never seems to have tummy discomfort.
Anyway, just for peace of mind, how often do your EBF babies blow up a diaper? :-) Can you set a watch to it, or does your LO vary like Miles?

My LO goes twice a day, once every 3 or 4 days, or anywhere in between. Normally when she goes more days her poop is slightly thicker but still a normal consistency. A couple times her poop has been greenish and I start freaking out thinking she's getting too much foremilk, then I remember she's off the chart for weight so clearly she's getting enough hindmilk.
I'd trust your gut. You know your LO and if he isn't cranky and his poop is still a normal consistency then he's not constipated.

For the past month or so he's been pretty consistent with every other day. EBF babies can go up to a week without pooping and be totally normal, as long as there isn't any associated discomfort or feeding problems.
It's not about the frequency, it's about consistency. My LOs go more often now that they are on solids, but before would go anywhere from 1-4 days, sometimes 2x a day, but usually every 2-3 days. I don't think a lack of regularity indicates constipation.
Wow what a bitch of a doctor. Like rayray007 says a lack of regularity does not indicate constipation. Straining and passing of hard stools can indicate constipation. Like others said go with your gut. If he seems ok and is not uncomfortable he is fine. To answer your question my LO was going every other day for the most part until we started solids now he goes every day. I hope he can get off the antibiotic! Good luck!
I am sorry that Dr was so dismissive! Regardless of what she tells you, I would discuss with your Pedi if you don't agree/feel comfortable. I've been in those shoes with specialists in veterinary who treated me same way, even though I knew what I was taking about and it sucks.
My LO is not EBF, and he sometimes goes 2-3 days without pooping. I was concerned because sometimes he will strain and if right after eating, he can strain so hard that milk comes out of his nose. A couple times, I even thought poop seemed a little firmer. My Pedi told me that can be normal for babies and to just keep an eye on him. Now that he has started sweet potatoes, he poops more often.
Good luck, and have missed you hearing your updates, lady!

I thought it was common knowledge that constipation in babies means pebble like stools not lack of poop, so I am really surprised the dr didnt know that. Your pedi should set her straight.
DS typically goes every 1-2 days but sometimes he will go longer.
I agree with PPs, your baby is normal. DD will go 2-3 days sometimes between poops and DS did the same thing.
I would refuse to give him the Miralax until you speak to your pedi about it. I would also see if your pedi could give some sort of info or even speak directly to urologist about this. What a bitch.

We go from 6x a day to once a day. The antibiotics mess with him though so I have no idea. Once he only had a mini poop. That was a good day. Poop is sorta the theme of the last 5 months.

She usually goes once per day. Occasionally will go more than once/day or every other day. At her 4 mo appt last week her pedi was surprised she went everyday. He said it wasn't unusual for BF babies to go every few days.
We are at about 3 poops every 3 days, usually 1/day but sometimes backlogs that get cleared on a multipoop day. Her new trick is pooping right as she is falling asleep for naps, waking up (obviously I change her) and then being super pissed off, overtired and hard to get to sleep.
Baby gets exclusively breast milk but has crazy green poops from either her digestive issues or the meds we treat them with.
