Mothers Day reality

So...how was your Mothers Day?  Hoping everyone got at least some of what they were wishing for in the other thread!

My day was great.  DD was an angel.  Super sweet and in a great mood.  Well behaved even! lol  DH got me all new kitchen appliances a couple of months ago that were supposedly my mothers day gift so I didn't expect anything.  I got up with DD around 7 as usual.  DH got up around 10 and DD went into the bedroom with him.  A few minutes late she came out by herself carrying a little vase of roses and a card.  She looked like she was taking it so seriously and knew that it was very important.

I almost cried.  It was probably one of the smallest gifts DH has put together for me, but it was by far the sweetest because she delivered it with such perfection!  The card had her little hand and foot print in it.  Just perfect!

H never even wished me Happy Mother's Day until we were sitting at the table eating the bbq chicken that I COOKED, In the RAIN. He looks at me and goes "what's your problem?" Really? REALLY? I told him he hurt my feelings and that it would have taken all of 1.5 seconds to wish it to me. Then he felt bed so he helped me clean up after supper...whatever. I have told him multiple times, mother's day comes first for a reason. You screw up my day, yours is going to suck worse.

In his defense, he grew up in a family that treated all these days as no big deal, just any other day (bday, anniversary, Christmas - gasp!, Valentine's, etc.). I am trying to teach him that they are important to ME and I want them to be special to our KIDS too. It's a work in progress...

I got my nap that I so desperately wanted, and DH cleaned most of the house. He also got up w/ our LO who woke up both last night and the night before.

princessvespa1 - my DH forgot Mother's Day last year and I know how you're feeling... It sucks and I'm sorry.

DDs babysitter had her draw me a few pictures Friday and she glued MOM on it with foam letters, super cute!

DH got me a card and with a nice note and a GC to Dunkin Donuts in it. Being on maternity leave has made me feel like I need to be more thifty than usual, but having 2u2 has been making it hard for me to have my regular coffee/breakfast so it was nice that he acknowledged that (I eat at home 95% of the time but it seems like lately if I want to eat something it's easiest when both kids are in the backseat strapped in and I can go to a drive through). DH also went to our public library and signed us up for a family card! It's something I have wanted since we moved here 1.5 years ago but haven't actually gone and done for myself. I was happy!

What I was not happy about was going to multiple stores to find a patio set and us not liking any of them... Why Is it so hard to find a non-glass tabletop and matching chairs without cushions? Grrr! AND attempting to buy summer clothes yesterday for my larger post-baby frame was super depressing for me. I'm ok with my body the way it is, but my boobs have grown so much it makes any shirt or dress make me look wider than I am, and my varicose veins make me self conscious in shorts even though they've gotten much better in the last month. I don't know.

It was a nice day. Unfortunately, I didn't get to sleep in like I wanted. The whole family was up by 6. But we had a good day together, and I did nap when DS did. Then DH made me an awesome dinner and cleaned it all up.

I also got some flowers, a card with scribbling from DS, and some pastries.

We knew Sunday was going to be a wash out and rain all day so Saturday we planted our entire vegetable garden which took me a couple of hours. We bought two hanging pots with flowers and DH was like ...hey do you want those for mothers day? I was totally fine with that. I got a card with DS and DD's finger prints and art from DC and they painted wooden cooking spoons which are really cute. Then we went out that night and DH wasn't feeling that great so he wasn't really drinking...guess I took that as an excuse to tie one on. I was kind of hung over sunday morning. Then we all went to my MIL's and had a rib dinner. All in all it was a successful mothers day

Happy belated Mother's Day ladies!

We went to our hometown for the weekend because both of our moms live there. Saturday DH and DD visited with his mom while my mom and I went for pedicures. Sunday morning DH cooked me breakfast in the morning and then his grandparents and sister and her kids all came over... it was a bit more chaotic than I'd have liked, and everyone wanted to play board games. First off, I can't stand board games, and second... I'd rather spend time with DD than ignore her to play them.

We managed to leave around 3 pm and got home by 4:30, but even that wasn't without a guilt trip for leaving early. Once we were home we went on a nice long walk and finished off with frozen yogurt and playing at the park. The evening made up for the rest of the day. Don't get me wrong, I do like my husband's family but they are very overwhelming and I'm very pregnant and tired and would have preferred to have spent the day home with just the 3 of us.

We were at a wedding the night before and didn't have to get up with the kids, so I let loose and spent the day hung over and traveling home. The kids were excited to give me the pictures they drew me (instead of a card), a new watch, and a Time magazine about the 50th anniversary of Sound of Music (one of my all-time favorite movies). We went out to dinner with ILs and called my mom. It was nowhere near the ideal I described last week, but it was really good.

Was it Mother's Day yesterday? Hmmm...didn't feel it.

I got up with DS like I always do. DH and DS did get me a card and little frame with a picture of DS and I. The rest of day of it wad just like any other Sunday. Grocery shopping. Playing with DS while DH mowed the lawn, studied for his finals, put DS down for his nap, studied for his finals, cook (and complain about it cooking squash that he wanted to cook), and studied for his finals. I had to ask DH if I could plan lessons for next week and this week. I had to ask if we could go out for ice cream and we did.

FYI - DH always cooks. I reheat and bake.

Next Mother's Day DH will be a nurse and with my luck he would have to work.

Eh, I didnt get to sleep in. I was the first one in the house to wake up and DD woke up five minutes after me. So i just got her up. DH woke up when he heard me up but jumped in the bathroom and stole my shower. DD was a terror all day. Her second kolars are finally pushing through and taking forever. I had a headache and my ovary was killing me all day so i didnt move far from my heating pad all day. However, DH was a hugeee help and did athe things i usually do for DD and cooked dinner and bathed her after. So that was cool. We tried to have a fire after the day was over to chill out but the dog cam over and shit right next to us. I took it as a sign and tthrew in the towel. 


jnetx, DD doesnt say mama either!! She knows who momma is and can say it she just doesnt. And if i ask her to, she says dada,

jnetx and littlefoot DD does say Mama and Mommy but both are more frequently used for her paci. She calls me mommy, but only if she's in the mood. The Paci is always mommeeeeeeee.

I cleaned on Mother's Day. I swept, mopped and did the dishes. MH works 3rd shift on the weekends and the house wasn't going to clean itself. My 16 year old helped a little. I was a little annoyed, but whatevs. We went to Olive Garden, sat around for an hour before we were finally seated. It was fine, we went across the street and skated around Goodwill for half that time, came back and they said we had another 15-20 mins. We waited another half an hour. So when we sat down I ate all the breadsticks and salad.
