So at LOs 6 month check up Monday I asked the doctor about foods to avoid..and it got me to thinking about current research on food and allergies. The doctor said to avoid eggs until closer to 1 and peanut butter until closer to 2. New research suggests delaying foods may account for the increase in food allergies. The eggs one surprised me because I had planned to start eggs soon, and from what I've read DD is not at risk for allergies and to start with the yoke before the whites. So...what are your pediatricians saying about avoiding foods? The peanut butter one is still new and there are no recommendations on when to introduce..so I'll wait at least until DD is a year before I revisit it with the dr. But just curious about what everyone is planning to do..

There's no way in HELL I would delay high allergy foods until 2 years old. Is your pedi familiar with the study that was published in NEJM recently? Mine pulled it up during out conversation..... Yes, the delaying is thought to have something to do with the increase of peanut allergies we have observed in the US. We plan to offer PB on a Saturday where our pedi is in the office close to our home, so roughly 7.5 months.
We are only holding off on honey, and that's due to botulism, not allergies.
ETA: and milk, but not dairy. he enjoys whole milk ricotta, and we have offered yogurt, and cheese.

My pedi is quite liberal and into BLW, so she told us eggs and peanut butter were fine to introduce after 6 months. I did a skin test with peanut butter (I put a little on his upper arm) and he was fine. We have no food allergies on either side of the family. DS frequently eats scrambled eggs and peanut butter toast for breakfast. The only things our pedi said to avoid was milk, honey, and citrus until age 1 (citrus just due to possible tummy upset). And for reference, DS is 7.5 months.
Ok thanks guys! Our pedi is very conservative so rather than argue with him..because I knew he'd just say the research hasn't made it to practice yet..I remained quite. It was one of those things filed under..I'll do what I think is best. Also I wanted to see what other pedi were saying as I wanted to make sure I wasn't just reading things I wanted to see. I will plan to introduce eggs soon and I'll start with the yoke first and thanks for suggestion about a peanut butter skin test windwithfingers. I like my pedi otherwise and like how he's conservative in some ways..but do think at times that he talks down to us. So rather than argue I just nodded my head.
Edit to add I will stay away from milk and delay diary as we've had issues with formula. And of course I'm psycho about honey products..niece had botulism (from environment) and saw the scary effects.
Our ped said only thing off limits is honey and milk (not dairy). We have tried eggs but DD gave us what we call the betrayal face and spit them out. We did the skin test for peanut butter but haven't actually introduced yet. DD has also had Greek yogurt with no issues. She is 7.5 months.
Similar to others, no milk, or honey until 1, eggs, citrus and nuts at 9 months. Our pedi has been described as conservative, so take that for what it's worth. I wasn't dying to introduce eggs, nuts or milk anyway, so it's been fine with me. She did say baby yogurt is fine.
Ok totally going to ask doctor his reasoning in eggs and PB since it seems like other pedi are changing their recommendations. Thanks everyone.
Egg yolk and egg white are sometimes offered at different times because the white contains proteins that are considered high allergens.
A 2010 Australian Study found that infants given egg after 12 months of age are up to five times more likely to develop allergies compared to those who are introduced to eggs at four to six months, depending on how the egg is cooked.
