I would tell them to shove it. As the parent, its my responsibility to monitor social media use. And having access to their profile is a breach of privacy!

I'd be telling that school they can kiss my fat white ass. So many things could go wrong with the school having students passwords. It would create more problems than fix them.
This confuses me so much. Why would schools want that responsibility? If something regarding cyberbullying or a different school violation escalates to the point where they want that type of access, the next step should be to involve the correct authorities - not to try to handle the situation on their own. I am very surprised the law passed and is currently in effect. I feel like it's one that was skirted in with a larger law and no one realized what was going on.
I was reading a different article about it on CNET and they mentioned what happens when they uncover something else - like criminal activity or a sexual relationship - what happens then? Are they liable to go to the authorities then? But if they do, is *that* considered a breech of privacy since they were not accessing the account for that reason?
Do the kids even use facebook anymore? I thought they had moved onto the next big thing like snapchat and it was just us olds and my mom on there now.
But agreed, totally not a good idea.
Rarely. I've asked my students and their order that they check is usually 1. Snapchat 2. Whatever message system they use - text, Kik, fb messenger 3. Instagram. Then it's usually split between twitter and Facebook.
My students now use Facebook again. The reason is because they have school-issued iPads, so there have been restrictions on certain app use. Snapchat was banned...now we are waiting for Facebook to be banned.

I think snapchat was banned on my kids school issued ipads too but I know for sure Facebook wasn't. DD did have Instagram but she couldn't add people unless I knew who they were, (I'm on her friends list as well as my siblings).
