How did/will you tell your other kids about your pregnancy?

DD1 was so young that telling her about DD2 wasn't exactly a thing.  We haven't figured out when or how we're going to tell.  I'm curious what you ladies have done or will do.

We're in the same boat with DS being so young it isn't a thing. He'll be 19mos when LO is born. I think we'll start talking to him about the baby in November. I read somewhere that little little ones do best when they are told 2-3 months in advance.

Mine are 2.5 and are in a big "jump on mommy" stage. I keep telling them to be careful because there is a "baby in momma's tummy". Of course they are too young to understand but I just think it's nice to talk to them about the future baby, or that they are going to be big brothers.

I told S when I told H. He mostly doesn't care, but has decided that if it's a boy his name will be Carrots and if it's a girl it will be Broccoli. Weirdo.

This is what we did too. He thinks it's a dragon or a piggie haha. Who knows, maybe he is right.

H and I are trying to figure this out. DD is 4.5 and has been talking for awhile (not all the time, but consistently) about wanting a baby brother or sister. I think she'll be really excited. I want to wait until I go to my first appointment to tell her. I think. I don't know.

This is us! DS is 4 and really really wants a baby sister. We told him that we'd see what God gives us. We haven't told him yet as we want to make sure everything is ok before we do. But the other day he went to jump on me and I told him he could not do that. He said, "Cause there is a baby in there, right???" I think my mouth dropped open and then just told him because it hurts Mommy and he quickly moved on. I would love for him to be able to find out at an ultrasound and see the baby at the same time so he can connect the two but not sure if we can make that work.

This is actually my exact situation so +1

I already "told" her - but she's 17 months so you know. We will just talk about babies and practice with her "baby" as the time gets closer to help get her ready. There is a 7-month-old at her nanny, who she's been with since she was 4 weeks (their foster baby), so she already LOVES and at the moment does very well with LOs.

DS is 5 so we are going to wait for a little bit. We have an ultrasound next week to see if we are having 1 or 2 so if the baby is healthy, we might tell him then. We will only be 6 1/2 weeks at that point though, so we might wait longer. He would be absolutely crushed if he thought he was getting a sibling and then something happened.

This. Our DS is 5 as well. I don't want him to be disappointed. And I don't want him spilling the beans since we haven't told a single person yet.

Edit: I think when we're ready, we are going to put him in a big brother shirt. He has started reading so after a few minutes he will probably figure it out and be totally shocked!

This is actually worrying me, because 18 month DD is super clingy and always wants to be held and loves to jump on mommy, too. I was at my nanny's house holding a 2 month old and DD threw a FIT, clawing at my legs, trying to push her way into my lap. She will be just over 2 when LO is born so I'm thinking we might tell her closer to the actual due date when she can understand a little better.

Not sure. DD will be 2 next month and she is already showing "maternal" instincts. She helps ALOT with the newborn at her babysitter's and it always walking, burping and feeding (she nurses her baby doll) it's precious. I am excited for us to tell her, I think she might understand a little bit.

With DD I waiting to tell my niece (5) and nephew (4) until I was 8 weeks I think. Actually it was super cute because I told them I had a secret and brought them upstairs and we closed the door and I told them there was a baby in my belly and that they could tell Nana. They came running down the stairs and screaming "there's a baby in her belly!" After the fact I was nervous that I told them so early because if something happened how could I tell them that the baby was gone? Everything turned out fine and I'm generally an optimist but it worried me. Now DD is only 10 months and clearly has no idea when I say she's going to be a big sister or "don't tell Nana yet" but I'm pretty sure I will wait until Father's Day to tell my family in general (nieces and nephews included) and I'll be 9 weeks at that point.

When I fell pregnant the second time DD1 was only 6 months so we didn't intend to tell her until about a month before I was due. And then we only actually found out we would be adopting DD2 ten weeks before she was home with us, so that was all the warning DD1 got, and she was almost 2.

With this one though, the girls are 5 and 3, and have been asking for a baby brother for a while now. I'm probably going to wait until 20 weeks until we tell them though, because I know how heart broken they would be if something happened.

When I was pregnant with my son my daughter was 7 so I waited until I was showing before I told her that I was having a baby and by then we already knew that it was a boy so we were able to give her more details, and I think that was good because she is the type of child that will ask me questions every.single.day until the baby was born lol. So I think that the fact that we waited and only had about 3-4 months left at that point helped with the question part. This time she is 10 and my son is 2. I am going to hold out as long as I can maybe in the fall I will let my daughter know, as far as my son he is too young to understand.

DD is 5. She has been going around telling everyone she can that mommy is going to have a baby (Well before I was even pregnant) so we waited to tell her until we told my ILs because she can't keep a secret. Anyways we gave her a baby doll and told her she needed to practice for the new baby. She immediately said that she wants a baby sister and not a brother. We plan on telling everyone after our appointment on the 1st.

DD1 was only 22 months when DD2 was born. We had mentioned it earlier, but we got her a sibling book for Christmas and started talking to her more seriously about what to expect. When a baby would cry in the stairwell of the apartment building we lived in, she would point at the door, then point at my bump because we had told her that the baby would cry

This time around, we're waiting until we're ready to tell the world because DD1 will tell everyone she knows, and DD2 is sure to point at my stomach and say "baby." She actually has done that already in the past few months even though I wasn't pregnant. So around mid-July we'll tell them. It probably won't be anything exciting or dramatic, we'll just sit them down and explain what's going on.

This is us, but I did ask T if she wanted a baby. She grinned and looked to her toy chest in the corner which has a couple baby dolls on it. Of course I didn't expect her to know what I was talking about, just thought it was funny to see what she would do when she heard baby.

T (DD) is the same way. She's almost 15 months, and she doesn't like me holding my niece's or even DH and I touching each other. He was rubbing my back this morning before T and I left and she saw it and freaked out and ran to the living room. LOL  She will turn 2 the month after my EDD.
