Our little guy's given name is Charles, but he is the third, so we call him Tripp and that was always the intention. I call him Doodle all the time, though, even when referencing him in emails/texts. I need to break this habit.
My oldest is Anthony... I never call him that, except for when I am super pissed. He's been Tony since day one, sometimes I call him T. I call Leo "Lilo" a lot . That was from when I taught his preschool class and a little girl thought his name was lilo so it stuck.
My LO is named Nathan, for now we call him Nathan Bear, baby boogs (DH and I call each other boogs or booger.. We never really use each other's names..) or Baby Nathan.. My family also has some pretty unique nicknames for him bc he's so big.. Beefcakes, baby ogre.. Lol. I'm sure he'll have a more normal nickname like Nate when he's older.

I LOVE Nico! Nick is just fine too but I would go with Nico.
LO is Fox so we can't get any shorter. DH calls him Foxy boy. I accidentally called him princess once... I call my girl cat "pretty" and I almost said that but princess slipped out... Oops.
Since dogs have been brought up I'll also add that our dogs are Ransom (goat, mr goat) and Maddie (Madster, Buddha, lumpy, lump, Jabba) maybe you can guess Maddies appearance by her names....
I LOVE Nico! Nick is just fine too but I would go with Nico.

I know I've said it before, but I love the name Fox. I will campaign hard for it if I have a second.

We've got mostly "Fox? I love that name!" Lots of people call him Mr. Fox.
LO is Rhys. DD calls him Rhysie boy, we often call him Monkey or Rhesus Monkey. When he was tiny I started calling him Bugaboo, which has stuck around too.
Honestly he'll probably never let me because with our last name it's a little silly. Womp womp
So many names were out of the question for us because of DH's last name... So we are THOSE people who hyphenated their poor kid's name with a hard last name (mine). Whatever, I don't care. EVERYTHING girl name sounds like a nickname when your last name is Bird*.
*Not scared of Internet stalkers. DH's last name is out there all over the place on his artwork and children's book. Come at me, bro.
Our last name is a bit tricky too. I know a Steven Bird. Typical man first name. Could you imagine Fox Bird? That would get some looks...
amyface813 - Girl names sound like nicknames, but boy names sound lewd. Harry Bird, Richard (Dick) Bird, Johnny (Bird)... They're all almost universally bad. XD All the good boy names are already used by DH's extended family because there have been only boys for several generations (can't even tell you how excited they are about our kid being a girl). We like Felix but it's sooooo overused here. We're basically stuck if we have a boy next time. I have no idea what we'd call him.
Maybe just go full meta: Hawk. Eagle. Phoenix. Falcon.

Albatross.
LMAO at Albatross Bird! That would be amazing.
DH campaigned hard for LO's first name to be Bird. In all seriousness.
gdaniels77, Bird would be a terrible given name. It works as a nickname SOMETIMES but not often. XD Glad you didn't cave on that! The best advice I've ever heard about baby names is to give it a test run at Starbucks (or anywhere else you have to give your name). See how you feel giving that name. Watch reactions. I plan to try that for the name we want for a girl for #2. I'll make DH do it for our boy name.
Oh don't worry, I never even gave it any thought! He kept saying her nickname could be Birdie, which he thought was super cute. But I would tell him that was just Bertie spelled differently. Even times of me jokingly calling her Bertie Botts finally got the point across
I like the Starbucks advice too. I think that would make a lot of parents realize they should probably go back to the drawing board.

I really want to pm you my last name. It makes male names insulting and easily becomes lewd for girl names. And I love animal names and now can't use any ie Fox or Cat

Oh man now I'm super curious! XD
Me too! I also love the name Cat for a girl but I don't think we can have Fox and Cat... (And two cats, one of which is named Puma)
DH was telling people we were going to name LO Megatron. Because no one wants to mess with a kid named Megatron. Sad thing is is that people actually believed him!

If Lo were a girl we were gonna name him Katherine and call him kittie. Kittie was dhs great grandmothers name, and Katherine was a family name on my side
At least your husbands were trying to contribute. It's a wonder our LO didn't end up named No. I mean that was all he had to say in respects to names.. Ugh so annoying.

That was the response to almost all of my names.
The man is very against the name Paul. No explanation, but shot it down every time.
Yep. He was that way with every name! He had explanations though...
Owen? "Like Owen Wilson?" Lincoln? "I used to work with someone named Lincoln." Bradley? "I've never met a nice Bradley."
Omg !!! Otto was on our list too ! I still love it !
Me too! It's a serious contender for #2 if we have another boy. I like the idea of being team green next time, so there will be less pressure to choose a name ahead of time!
Nico and Otto would be an adorable set of siblings!

Our baby girl is Wilhelmina. She is Mina to just about everyone, simply because my husband and I call her that. It gets extended to "Mean Mina" quite often.
The rest of her nicknames are nonsense. Willard, Willy, and Willermina are the more entertaining variations. My dad calls her Whama-Lama, because he couldn't remember how to spell her name the whole first month of her life. lol
The "Will" theme goes well because my nickname is Bill. My name is nowhere near Bill, for the record.
