Oh, just as a heads up. Your doctor may put your due date in January. Most doctors date based on LMP. Even if you know the ovulation date, they will likely go with LMP. Your cycle is not that abnormal. They may change it if they do a dating ultrasound and there is a big difference, but not a few days.
What the doctor says won't change the fact that she ovulated on CD21 and therefore her EDD is still 2/1/16.

Yep, I'm aware. Based on LMP it would be January 26, but as a first time mom I would be likely to deliver late anyway, likely in February. I go to a pretty crunchy practice, so I'm not sure how they'll handle dating since it can have such a big impact on things like inducing.

I know this will likely stir things up, but you can always tell your practitioner that your lmp was a few days later than it actually was if you think it'll make a difference. 5-6 days could be a difference between induction or no, if you want a med free birth that could be a big deal. I'm inferring a lot here, so disregard of you've got no problem with induction. Or, your "crunchy" practice may be more inclined to listen to your info on when you ovulated vs lmp dating. The MW practice I went to last go round didn't talk induction until you hit 42 weeks, but again 5-6 days difference could make a difference especially for a FTM. Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth.

Last time I was pregnant, I lied about my LMP to make it match up with my ovulation date because the first time I was pregnant I told them that I had ovulated late in the cycle and they told me they still liked to use LMP. I always ovulate late. I see no harm done!

My OB/MW practice was fine with taking my ovulation date rather than LMP to figure out when to schedule my 8 wk appt. So I'm rolling with the 1st until we (hopefully) get some measurements.
Congrats, I got mine too! Same situation as you: January EDD based on LMP but I have long cycles and I know I won't be induced at the due date (I'm planning a birth center or homebirth)! Hopefully I stay here and we get to know each other!

::lurky loo:: (also hoping to be here)
With my first kiddo, I ovulated on CD18 and I'll be damned if they didn't ignore that and date based on my LMP so my kid was 'measuring almost a week behind' my whole pregnancy. Really? Thanks captain obvious!
I will NOT make that mistake again. I O'd this cycle on CD22 so IF I get a BFP, the answer to 'when was your last menstrual period?' will be 'dunno'.

That's so dumb bootsorhearts. I mean...do they know how ovulation works? It seems like they of all people should understand that not everyone ovulates on day 14 and how charting temps can tell you your ovulation date with relative accuracy.

Honestly, I think they reason they default to LMP dating is likely out of laziness/ease of charting (I imagine most charting programs are set to calculate EDD based on a 28 day cycle, with O on cd14). They probably have to manually calculate/correct/re-enter your EDD otherwise (probably every time). And well, that just takes too much effort.
Congrats, hi, and I'm glad your practice is willing to list your EDD based on your ovulation date--it's nice to start out knowing you're working with people who care what you think!

Lurking from Jan16
i think this is so annoying. This time tho, my doc asked for my LMP and LH surge. But they're using LMP.
Ugh I hate the LMP thing. I fully plan to lie about mine because I ovulated on CD26 (PCOS).
I had a loss last year after having two healthy ultrasounds with my RE that measured exactly on track with my O date (which was CD 25). My loss was discovered after I moved to my OB and the doctor said "well, you should have been expecting this because you were measuring way behind". I was furious, but too in shock to even try to explain.
