I think what happened is disgraceful and honestly I think that TLC should cut the show all together. But again that's my opinion and I don't like their show or any of their beliefs anyways.
Also no mention because everyone left us for the new FB group so there's never anyone here anymore.
I never liked the show either! Nor do I follow it. I just know there are some girls on our board who LOVE the duggars! I'm glad it's no longer aired. If it's also on Hulu or Netflix or Amazon, I hope it's off of those as well! But I don't care how many kids people chose to have!

I just don't know enough about the situation. The reports I've read are all super vague. They just have said "underage girls", but he was underage at the time too. Were they significantly younger than him?

This! I've read so many things I am not sure what the truth is or if it's a mixture of them all. First I read that his dad caught him when he was 17 coming out of a room with a minor girl (who could have been 16, who knows what minor means?) after having done inappropriate things. But to a Duggar, that could have been holding hands or kissing.
I've also read stuff that says they were little girls, like under 10 and that some of them were his sisters. Their statement was also very vague, saying he made "teenage mistakes". So again, what is that?
I've always liked them....I thought some (many) of their beliefs were pretty strange and didn't agree with most of them, but I like that they appeared to be a wholesome family who got along, weren't always screaming at each other and full of drama and they all had jobs and skills once they were old enough. But of course, this scandal makes me feel differently.
If it is true that he did in fact molest girls that were way younger than him and his sisters (ie not 17 fooling around with a 16 year old girl), then I hope he gets the help he needs and it is a shame the statue of limitations are up because he needs to pay for what he did. If it were just that fact, I would say I still like the family and you cannot judge a whole family on one bad apple. Out of a family that big, there is bound to be one that is off. However, if the worst of the reports are true, it is sad and disgusting that they would cover it up like it is said they did, obviously caring more about his rep than his victims.
Full disclosure/UO maybe: I'm a transplant to Arkansas and I HATE that all that most people know about this state are that the Duggars live here. I have no patience for them.
I'm always suspect of people who act so pious and holier than thou on TV. If some of the victims really were his sisters, Jim Bob and Michele should be facing charges for neglect in failing to protect their daughters. In their faith girls are worth less than boys and are only good for making more people.
I also feel that it's irresponsible to have that many kids in the 21st century in the US, unless you're a farm family or really well off. Even then 19 is a stretch.

Yes, bsouls, I've been enraptured with that thread on Parenting as well...I was at the salon yesterday and I as there for sooooo long (nearly 4 hours...ridiculous) so I had time to read it all. Very informative and they posted so many links...got caught up on the sick and twistedness of it all...tragic, really. I've always been neutral of that family bc I've never seen it but now I'm very much having several issues with them.
I had no idea about this, nor do I really know anything about the Duggars. I still have no idea what happened? I saw. Preview on TLC once but I've never watched. I don't see the appeal.
I always thought they were odd, but didn't really have a problem with them. Now I think the parents are sick for doing nothing to protect their daughters after the abuse happened.
ETA: and I'm worried for his daughter and future daughters. I hope this coming out puts him under the microscope enough he won't be able to do anything fucked up to his own kids.

I had heard about a "sin in the camp" YEARS ago on freejinger but I had no idea what it really was. This is just unbelievable and sad, really sad. I will admit I used to watch their show on TLC all the time but not any longer.

Yes to all of this! It really is irresponsible to have that many kids. There is no way parents can attend to that many human beings. I think the lack of parental supervision was a factor in Josh molesting his younger sisters. I think Jim and Michele should have been investigated because of this.
Some news page posted the police report - it was over 40 pages long. It goes into detail (without naming anyone's names) about the history of the allegations and the witness statements etc.
Someone in the comment section wrote:
Abstinence grows fondlers.
This was a matter of time, IMO, and I'm glad that it's finally coming out. I didn't like the oldest one anyways and now it's even harder to look at his face and smirky grin.
Also in the article it talked about the instances of molestation in home schooled homes, etc. If I can find it I'll post the link.

fishbulb, You said it better than I did. If a family wants to have that many kids to each their own, but I don't see how with 19 children, any of them get the nurturing and undivided attention that each child needs. I know they have the siblings to help raise the children, but why should that fall onto the other kids shoulders to raise their sister or brother? Also I don't see how anyone can afford to have that many children...
P.S I am having a very hard time putting this into words without sounding degrading.
I've always been turned off by them. Maybe it's their unapologetic excessive-ness. I caught 2 minutes of their show one time and just remember that they were using styrofoam cups and disposable plates for their meals. It just really grated on me the amount of waste their family must produce in the name of convenience because they have too many children to be responsible members of society.
(Wow, sorry, that came out as a total rant. I guess I just live in an area that's all about being "green". When your city bans plastic bags in favor of reusable ones and you get the stink eye for drinking bottled water and not recycling, I guess it's just shocking to see that some people still think using styrofoam on a daily basis is ok.)

I have a sister in law that has nine children and just lost a set of twins. She is 44? 45?
They are so proud of their "little Duggar family" and may be similar in the religious beliefs?
They are so poor ... they get weekly donations from the church. Every summer we have a family get together with Hubs' side... those kids eat and eat and eat and eat.
After seeing the financial impact of one tiny human, I cannot imagine what that is when multiplied by 19! Even the thought of two for me right now is outrageous. Kudos to those that can support more than 1.. And the never ending string of diapers (20+ years of them).

This! We'd like to start trying for another later this summer but I'm terrified of having two in daycare at the same time. On the other hand I'm 36 and MH is 38, so I don't want to wait too long. Decisions.
I've been looking at the news reports and still can't figure out what happened. So far it sounds like everything is just being blown up for media ratings. I imagine if there was any substance they would include more details than just 'molested'. I mean...for a duggar, 'molested' could be kissing before marriage. I don't support anyone who would touch a child at all (even if he was only 14) but just based on how little the news has to report it sounds like the allegations unfounded. I feel bad for the family.
kimberpoo I am pretty sure what I've read is that he touched breasts and genitalia. That's why others are trying to defend as "kids playing doctor." But, 14 year olds don't play doctor. And, they know not to play it with siblings who are sleeping...
