Currently reading/Listening to: Reading - Watership Down (finally). Listening - Wizard and Glass (Book iv of the Darktower series)
How far along: Watership Down about 30 pages. W&G about half way.
Liking it: WD has really caught my attention and I can tell it's going to be a great read. W&G is something I've read before. I'm a big Stephen King fan and the whole Darktower saga is amazing.
Recommend: Yes to both.
Any other books finished this week: I just finished The Book of Negroes.
Like them: Amazing. Pick it up if you get a chance. Now I can watch the TV special I have recorded on my PVR.
GTKY: All of them? I'll read almost anything. Not a big fan of romance novels and chicklit though.

@yellowwallpaper12 I read Devil in the White City back in college and really liked it. I was a history major though so I could be biased.
I think the heavy focus on the World's Fair versus HH Holmes could've been an issue with the availability of primary sources and reliable secondary sources surrounding Holmes. It can be really difficult to get enough details to write something that is historically accurate but also a compelling read. Given what he was working with, I thought Larsen (sp?) did a pretty amazing job.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult (audiobook)
How far along are you? About 30%
How are you liking it? I'm really liking it so far. It's been a long time since I read a Picoult book because I was annoyed by her formula. So far, it doesn't feel like she's following her same predictable formula.
Would you recommend it? Yes, it's a good beach read.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I finished listening to Yes Please! yesterday and I adored that book. I can't recommend it highly enough.
How did you like them? Loved it.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I really don't have a favorite, I like anything, even fiction that ends up teaching me something. Like this Picoult book is a beach read but I'm learning lots of Jeopardy knowledge about elephants.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Petals in the wind by vc Andrews I think I also started the goldfinch awhile ago, but didn't get very far.
How far along are you? Not too far into it
How are you liking it? It is a follow up to flowers in the attic that I read for the parenting book club. I am disturbed. /p]
Would you recommend it? If you read flowers in the attic, then yes!
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Nope. I am a one at s time reader.
How did you like them?
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I like romance, mystery, some ya, social justice related books /p]
What are you currently reading/listening to? Reading: The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) Listening: The Stand
How far along are you? TFC: 110/1443 pages TS: ~60%
How are you liking it? The Fiery Cross is slow
I started reading this series a few years ago. I only got to book 5 and didn't even read it all. I couldn't take it anymore. I was too bored.
However, did you happen to see the made for tv version of the first book? I enjoyed that immensely! I can't remember what channel it was on. My mom had it on a jump drive from her hair stylist so we watched it together at her house.
My check in: I just finished (last night) The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus) by Rick Riordian. I really liked it. I like how this series isn't just incorporating the greek gods, but also the Roman aspect of mythology. I would totally recommend it if you are looking for light fictional reading.
My favourite (yes, I'm Canadian and we like extra vowels) genres would have to be fiction, chick-lit, and a bit of historical fiction (Phillipa Gregory stuff).
I finished reading (listening) to this series not long ago. I liked them. I think I liked them more than the Percy Jackson series. I really like the way he sneaks history into his books. We went to Italy when I was a couple of books into the series. I felt like I understood more about some of the roman art and places because of the books. I really enjoyed mythology growing up so, I find his spin is entertaining.
I'll try to post this on Thursdays, but anybody can feel free to post as well. I'm flexible, and I figure I'll post today to get the ball rolling. Since this will be our first check-in let me know if you have other suggestions for this check-in.

How did you like them?
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Children's literature, YA
Hi ladies! I'm just noticing that we have a Book Club board, and I'm pretty psyched about it:)
What are you currently reading/listening to? I just finished Stone Mattress by Margaret Atwood, and I'm about to start And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.
How far along are you? DH is playing Call of Duty, so I'll probably start in a few minutes
How are you liking it? I've heard great things about it, and I have enjoyed some of his other work. So I'm sure I'll like this book as well.
Would you recommend it? I would always recommend Khaled Hosseini.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I finished Stone Mattress by Margaret Atwood on Monday.
How did you like them? I thought it was pretty good. It was a book of short stories, which I usually don't get into. But I love her as an author, so I gave it a chance.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I'd like to think that I'm a pretty open minded reader. I can't really think of one particular genre that stands out to me. It all depends on what I'm in the mood for
I just noticed the book club board. I'm so excited to join in!
What are you currently reading/listening to? Reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.
How far along are you? About 100 pages, so 25% of the way.
Would you recommend it? Yes! I love pretty much everything Maggie's written (especially The Scorpio Races) so I would recommend it. I just love her writing style.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I finished INKED by Eric Smith earlier this week.
How did you like them? Eric is a friend of a friend so I was really excited to read it...but it was AWFUL
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Definitely YA fantasy, and YA in general.

Watership Down is my fav! I may or may not be wearing a Watership down T-shirt right now. It's fantastic on audio if you ever feel like re-reading.
2) 340 or so of 550 (e-reader version) 3) Nope. 4) Nope. 5) I've been stuck on this one for awhile. I really do need to pick up another book for a breather. 6) N/A
GTKY: Probably history, whether that is fiction or non-fiction. WWII fascinates me, so I read a lot about it.
My mom and I were just dicussing the worst book we've ever read. Mein Kampf was my answer even though I didn't actually finish it.

That's great! I love books with great audio because I use books that I've already read to help me fall asleep.
elsiemae I love Margaret Atwood! Have you read the MaddAddam trilogy? I've only read Oryx and Crake, but it was so good. I really need to pick up the other two.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Miramont's Ghost by Elizabeth Hall Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (audio and following along on kindle when I'm able)
How far along are you? 70% Miramont's Ghost, will probably finish today. 6% GWTW this is the 3rd or 4th time I've started this. I wouldn't be surprised if I never finish it.
How are you liking it? MG: LOVE! I don't know why it has so many mediocre reviews. GWTW: I love the first part always, it's when we get into the hungry parts that I lose interest.
Would you recommend it? Yes and yes.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Wuthering Heights: 4 stars Plan B: a nick heller short: 4 stars, just not my fav genre.
How did you like them? Oops, see above.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Probably historical fiction.

What are you currently reading/listening to? I just started an Elin Hilderbrand novel for easy reading before the real reading begins for the book club book. The Love Season. This is the type of stuff I read when I need a brain chill out.
How far along are you? Page 102. If it is a simple novel, I read extremely fast. (ETA: I finished it this morning. It's still just ok.)
How are you liking it? Meh, it's ok.
Would you recommend it? I don't know yet. I don't typically recommend books like this unless a person brings up some sort of topic that relates to it.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? None. ETA: I finished The SleepEasy solution recently. Does that count?
How did you like them? N/A
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I have two favorites. Dystopian fiction and historical fiction.

I somehow missed actually posting my answers despite responding to others.
What are you currently reading/listening to? All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr
How far along are you? 150ish pages in
How are you liking it? I'm really enjoying it so far. It's set in the lead up and during WWII. It has two protagonists with parallel story lines, one French and one German. They have yet to meet, but I'm assuming they will.
Would you recommend it? Yes!
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Nope. We get the New Yorker and I try to keep up with that which can be a struggle. So I finished the second-most-recent issue of that.
How did you like them? It depends on the articles in the issue!
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Historical fiction, historical non-fiction, biographies and YA.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Reading: Discovery of Witches and Dragonfly in Amber
How far along are you? Chapter 3 or so in DOW and about 75% done with Dragonfly in Amber
How are you liking it? So far DOW is just meh for me but I'm going to keep reading. I loved Outlander once it picked up and hoped Dragonfly in Amber would be the same way. I like her storytelling but I am bored to death with this one. I've been reading it for 2 months because I have to read others with it to make it interesting.
Would you recommend it? I've recommended the Outlander series as a whole to others because I feel like it has so much potential.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I finished IF I Stay on Saturday and thought it was less than stellar. A quick read but not that great overall.
How did you like them? see above
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Anything that catches my attention. I read pretty much any genre and say I'm just looking for a good book. Haha.
Post by starsailor26 on Jan 26, 2015 14:15:45 GMT -5
What are you currently reading/listening to? Just started The Giver this morning.
How far along are you? I'm on page 5.
How are you liking it? I haven't gotten far enough along but it seems like it will be an easy read.
Would you recommend it? See above.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I just finished Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella. I really wanted something lighthearted because I read Odd Hours (Odd Thomas series) just before that and I needed a mental break.
How did you like them? I really enjoyed Twenties Girl, maybe more so following Odd Hours. Dean Koontz can get a little too descriptive at times and Odd Hours became a chore but I want to finish the series because I love the main character.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Paranormal and YA dystopian are at the top of the list, but it also depends on my mood.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Getting ready to read Burned by Karen Marie Moning
How far along are you? Starting it tonight (FX'd)
How are you liking it? Hoping I love it - The rest of the Fever series is one of my favorite series ever.
Would you recommend it? TBD
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? None.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I'm really into the supernatural/fantasy genre, but it's getting so hard to find anything with an original twist. Everything is so repetitive these days.
How did you like them? Burned was pure shit. I'm still bitter about it. It's book 7 in one of my all time favorite series and it sucks. Saving francesca was amazing. So good for a YA. Life as we knew it also good. Dystopian type YA. Never never I have mixed feelings on. It's a trip and the writing was better than most of CoHo's stuff but it was only like 175 pages and ended on a cliff hanger.
Oh no! I'm starting this tonight and I was looking forward to it! I love the Fever series.

What are you currently reading/listening to? Book 3 of game of thrones series...
How far along are you? Like 52%
How are you liking it? I like it, but it's just soooooooooooo long.
Would you recommend it? Only if you're looking for fantasy type books and don't mind months on end reading the same book series. (I can only read about a chapter a night before falling asleep)
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Nope :-(
How did you like them? -----
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Probably Christian Fiction or Christian Romance, but I also tend to like anything Nora Roberts (Except when she gets super witchy)
