I'll try to post this on Thursdays, but anybody can feel free to post as well. I'm flexible, and I figure I'll post today to get the ball rolling. Since this will be our first check-in let me know if you have other suggestions for this check-in.
What are you currently reading/listening to?
How far along are you?
How are you liking it?
Would you recommend it?
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week?
What are you currently reading/listening to? Reading: The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) Listening: The Stand
How far along are you? TFC: 110/1443 pages TS: ~60%
How are you liking it? The Fiery Cross is slow, but Diana Gabaldon is such a fantastic story teller that it's hard not to keep your interest. The Stand is just awesome. I'm glad I'm listening to it instead of reading it. I'm not the biggest Stephen King fan, but there are the few that are just epic, and The Stand is one of them.
Would you recommend it? Yes, I would recommend both. I would recommend Outlander, but let you know that It is a VERY long series and will take a lot of commitment, and I am 2 years into reading it and only on book 5 or 8.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Nope, I'm probably going to still be reading/listening to both these monster novels for the next couple check-ins.
How did you like them? N/A
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Historical Fiction, specifically WWII. I am a sucker for good YA.

How are you liking it? The Fiery Cross is slow
I started reading this series a few years ago. I only got to book 5 and didn't even read it all. I couldn't take it anymore. I was too bored.
However, did you happen to see the made for tv version of the first book? I enjoyed that immensely! I can't remember what channel it was on. My mom had it on a jump drive from her hair stylist so we watched it together at her house.
My check in: I just finished (last night) The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus) by Rick Riordian. I really liked it. I like how this series isn't just incorporating the greek gods, but also the Roman aspect of mythology. I would totally recommend it if you are looking for light fictional reading.
My favourite (yes, I'm Canadian and we like extra vowels) genres would have to be fiction, chick-lit, and a bit of historical fiction (Phillipa Gregory stuff).

It's Starz, and we may or may not have picked it up just so I can watch Outlander . I thought it was fantastic, especially how hard it must be to cut down such a large book w/o losing anything in the process. Many die hard Outlander fans were even impressed, and said they could overlook some of the things left out. I can't wait for it to come back on in April (I think it's April).

What are you currently reading/listening to? The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes
How far along are you? Not very, maybe 20 pages.
How are you liking it? It is a little hard to keep up with right now, still getting characters straight. Plus, it is time travel so the years change back and forth with each chapter. I just have to get used to the style.
Would you recommend it? Not sure yet....
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I'm also reading The Cat Who Series by Lillian Jackson Braun just as mindless fun reads before bed.
How did you like them? I've always enjoyed them
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? mystery, though I also read a lot of classics due to the 1001 Books To Read Before you Die list
What are you currently reading/listening to? Awaken by Kate Kacvinsky
How far along are you? I just started it last night, maybe 30 pages
How are you liking it? I actually like it a lot so far.
Would you recommend it? Sure, so far.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I am on a real reading roll. Since last Thursday I've read: Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry, Geek Girl by Cindy Bennett, Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi and listened to Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote, All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill, and The Legend of Sleep Hollow by Irving Washington.
How did you like them? Loved all the books I read (read each one in 1 sitting), did not like any of the ones I listened to. Some books just don't succeed as audio books for various reasons and I think all of the books I've listened to this week fall into that category.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Probably YA dystopian.

What are you currently reading/listening to? RED rising by Pierce Brown, Bossypants, and listening to Frankenstein
How far along are you?Just started RR, halfish on the other two.
How are you liking it? RR is very intriguing so far. It has tontons of good reviews so I'm really optimistic. Bossypants is okay. It's not my favorite type of book. It is funny and good for picking up when I have a few minutes here or there. Frankenstein is good but I think I should have read it instead of listening.
Would you recommend it? Yes.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I read Burned by Karen Marie Moning. Saving francesca by Melina Marchetta. Life as we knew it by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Never never by colleen Hoover.
How did you like them? Burned was pure shit. I'm still bitter about it. It's book 7 in one of my all time favorite series and it sucks. Saving francesca was amazing. So good for a YA. Life as we knew it also good. Dystopian type YA. Never never I have mixed feelings on. It's a trip and the writing was better than most of CoHo's stuff but it was only like 175 pages and ended on a cliff hanger.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Ha. I can't even pipick a favorite genre. I love paranormal romance, historical romance, urban fantasy, dystopians, some YA, some NA.
What are you currently reading/listening to? 1984 by George Orwell
How far along are you? Just started. Maybe 20 pages in?
How are you liking it? It's interesting so far.
Would you recommend it? Sure. It's a classic.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I finished Red Rising and omigah.
How did you like them? I immediately ordered the sequel Golden Son after finishing it. I can't rave enough about it. It just left me sitting in bed awake thinking when I should have been sleeping. That's good.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Dystopian YA, historical fiction, anything in Asia
How are you liking it? RR is very intriguing so far. It has tontons of good reviews so I'm really optimistic.
I wasn't sure how I felt about it in the beginning but it definitely gets better and better.
Good to hear! Have you read the second? I have a love/hate relationship worth starting a series when is only half published. I still get some of the anticipation but I can't binge read them all if they're great.

Nope, it's supposed to be delivered today. I get that feeling too. But sometimes it's nice to have something to look forward to.

What are you currently reading/listening to? I haven't officially started it, but I'm picking up Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carriger next.
How far along are you? Give me til the end of the evening. I'll probably be halfway through.
How are you liking it? I can't tell you about this specific book yet, but I love everything GC writes, so I'm confident it'g going to be amazing.
Would you recommend it? Absolutely.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Well... I finished Comet's Tale by Steven Wolf; The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz; and the entire Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts
How did you like them? Comet's Tale was frustrating at times, but very sweet. The Sweet Life in Paris was very amusing, but made me re-think visiting Paris. And I loved the Bride Quartet. I'm sad I don't have any more of them to read.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I am a big fan of steampunk. After that, definitely fantasy.

I loved it and I really like GC too. I soulless awhile ago and never for to finish the series. Then I listened to etiquette and espionage on audiobook straight through on a trip and loved it. The narrator is very good and the writing is so great and fun. Now i want to finish the parasol series.

I adore both of those series so much. I've been gradually re-reading the novels and reading the manga that was made for The Parasol Protectorate. The copy of the last manga volume I ordered just arrived, actually. Also, I can't wait for her new series to begin. Prudence, the first book in The Custard Protocol series, comes out March 17th. I don't advise reading the plot description until you finish Parasol, though.

Gail carriger fans too. I'm going to faint with happiness. They're rare to find. I'm so excited for Prudence to come out!

This makes me very happy! People usually look at me like I'm crazy when I recommend GC's books. They just don't know what they're missing.

What are you currently reading/listening to? The Giver, The House on Mango Street
How far along are you?Almost done with Mango Street and I just started The Giver
How are you liking it?I love Mango Street. It's a bunch of really short anecdotal stories from the author's childhood. I knew I would love it because her intro alone made me cry. lol
Too soon to tell for the Giver
Would you recommend it? Absolutely
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Sci-fi/fantasy.
The End Is Now ed. by John Joseph Adams (67%) The first book in this triptych (The End Is Nigh) was really good and I'm loving this one as well. I wish the final one (The End Has Come) were out already so I could dive right in when I wrap up this one. Perfect balance of heartbreak and horror.
Dust by Hugh Howey (20%) I keep putting this one down, coming back to it, lather rinse repeat -- not because it isn't good but because I feel so much for the characters and their circumstances that I get bummed out if I don't take breaks. I'm determined to finish it this time, though, within the next 3 weeks.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (15%) Not very far into this yet. My reading is a bit harmed by seeing the film first, albeit not recently. Digging it so far, though.
In the past week or so I finished:
Seed by Ania Ahlborn Nice horror but there was a minor detail that had fuck-all to do with the actual plot that bugged the shit out of me. (Let's just say child passenger safety is one of my hills to die on and leave it at that.) Aside from that peeve which is all me and not the quality of the writing... I liked the premise, but wished the characters would have been developed more fully. The whole thing felt too fast and shallow when it seems like so much more could have been done.
The Three Little Tamales by Eric A. Kimmel Okay, this is a children's book so I picked it up to potentially read with the toddler and ohdeargod it is so cute! Just imagine the 3 little pigs as tamales and run with it. Love the illustrations and the adaptation of the old tale was nicely done.
Sleep Tight by Rachel Abbott I think while sleep-deprived I misread the blurb for this and thought it was going to be a sci-first thriller instead of a painfully average suspense. The revelations were too easy to predict, and again, lack of character development. Gimme some meat, authors!
GTKY: Sci-fi/fantasy mystery, like Discworld novels, Keith R.A. DeCandido's Dragon Precinct stuff, and take your pick of Gibson et al for sci-fi with mysteries to be solved.

Unknown I agree with The Fiery Cross. I love the Outlander series but there are a couple in there that are not my favorite in the series. I felt like Dragonfly in Amber was another one that was drug out and I really just wanted to skip the whole middle of the book. Keep on going because A Breath of Snow and Ashes is better.
What are you currently reading/listening to? The Highland Henchman by Amy Jarecki.
How far along are you? I am only 10% in.
How are you liking it? So far it is good. It is the second book in a series and I really like the character that this book is written about.
Would you recommend it? Not sure since I am only just starting it. I loved the first in the series and I would recommend it.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? Not so much this week but in the last month I read several; Captured by a Pirate Laird by Amy Jarecki, The beast by Kathryn Le Veque, The Winter Sea by Susana Kearsley (that one was a re-read).
How did you like them? Love them. A good amount of heat and the characters are well developed.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I love historical fiction and historical romance.
What are you currently reading/listening to? Howl's Moving Castle Outlander Daughter of the Forest
How far along are you? Howl's Moving Castle-5 chapters in Outlander-Still on the first chapter Daughter of the Forest-3 chapters in
How are you liking it? Howl's Moving Castle & Daughter of the Forest-Loving them both. I'm already looking forward to the next books. Outlander-It hasn't really captured my attention. The reason I'm still stuck on the first chapter.
Would you recommend it? I'm sure I will when I'm closer to the end of the books.
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? Ohh I love all genres. Lately, I've been really into fantasy/adventure books.
What are you currently reading/listening to? I just started The Infinite Sea (second book in The 5th Wave series)
How far along are you? Like 5 pages.
How are you liking it? Ok, but the first one was unexpectedly good so I'm sure I will like this one too.
Would you recommend it? I would highly recommend the first one, especially to you dystopian people.
Any other books/audiobooks you finished this week? I just finished The Bronze Horseman and it was very good. It is a trilogy but the first one was so long I needed a break from the story. It's about WWII Russia and a great love story.
How did you like them? See above
GTKY: What is your favorite genre? I tend to lean toward YA paranormal and sci-fi but I also love historical fiction. I'll pretty much read anything though.
