When did prom become like weddings? All these prom pics on my fb newsfeed, the girls are having pro photo shoots done, looking all whistful by a lake.
Prom is of course big at the time, and I suppose they can be fun (i wouldn't know, I went to two and they both sucked) but acting like it's the biggest day of one's life is kinda silly.

Yes!!!! I went to prom 4 times.. 4 dresses at around $500 each plus shoes, tanning, hair, accessories... I spent like $1000 each time.... Sooooo much money wasted!! Now the damn dresses hang in my closet Ive tried to sell them but God forbid a girl buys a used dress these days!
Edited: my mom paid for none of it either, it was my own hard earned money. Wish I had that kinda money to just blow now!
I agree with the prom thing! It was fun to dress up and have our parents take pics, but getting a pro photographer? treating it anything like a wedding? um no. the best part of prom was the afterparty. (for which there is no photographic evidence. lol)
UO: IDGAF about bruce/caytlin jenner. I wore a dress in public once. it was awful. big deal.
I think everyone is entitled to do what they want. wanna dress like a girl? fine. wanna be a same-sex couple? great! get married to a guy? girl? awesome. love is love. I don't think it should be made into such a big deal. I don't think people are 'heroes' for doing it, and I don't think that's 'true' bravery. Brave it its own way, absolutely, but the comparisons to war heroes I've been seeing is totally misplaced. and when the news spends 15 seconds mentioning new medal of honor recipients and then 5 full minutes discussing jenner, it's disgusting and makes me question where America's brain has gone.
I also went to Prom 4 times. I made each time cheaper than the previous though! I think Prom is pretty stupid actually. I didn't like them.
I don't care about Caytlin Jenner. Want to be a woman? GREAT!!!! Do it, and do it proudly. Be proud of who you want to be. I commend him for following HER dream to be on the outside what she/he feels inside!
DH and I started watching Friends from Season 1. A couple episodes/night. We are on the episode 7. Monica drives me NUTS. She is the epitome of what I strive NOT to be as a wife/girlfriend, ESPECIALLY as it relates to her wedding and relationship with Chandler.

mrssmith613, maybe try donating them. We have a local charity that makes burial gowns for babies that don't make it home from the hospital. I donated all of my dance dresses and they used them to accent the gowns or make vests for little boy outfits. When they can't use the non wedding dresses, the y have an event where girls that cannot afford dresses can come and pick one out. Maybe there is something like that in your area.

mrssmith613 check out the Bell of the Ball program too. They take prom dresses, dry clean them and then give them to under privileged girls to wear to prom.
On the prom note, these prom-posals I've been seeing in the news are ridiculous. Going skydiving to ask a girl to prom? Way too much. Apparently the average cost of a prom-posal is $300!
I second donating prom dresses. That's what I did with mine!
I look back on my senior prom now and laugh. So much money and the night went to shit due to "love" triangle! Ha! I went with a guy who I didn't like, danced with one guy who liked me and another I was totally in love with. Ended in pretty much a sucky night
