My little bundle of joy wakes up every 2.5 hours at night. She hasn't missed a feeding and hasn't given me a 3-4 hour stretch in all of her 5.5 weeks of life. Needless to say, my husband and I are getting used to this psychotic, energy-sucking schedule. Last night, baby had her 5 oz of breastmilk (yes, she's a chunker) at 8:30pm. I put her in her crib at 9pm and my husband and I ran to our bedroom knowing that she'd be up around 11:30pm. We put the baby monitor on, pretended to attempt to kiss each other good night, and immediately fell asleep. The next thing we know, we are being woken by the chirping of birds and the sun on our faces. WTF?!? I jumped up as high as an olympic high jumper, screamed on the top of my lungs to wake my husband (WHY did I do that? Yes, I like to have others share in my freak out sessions). He jumped up and we both ran to baby's nursery thinking we'd find her without a pulse. In doing so, we knocked heads, he gave me a bloody nose, and I somehow sprained my ankle. Though we were so very grateful for that extremely long stretch of sleep, I was beyond mortified thinking 2) She hasn't eaten in almost 12 hours 3) How the eff am I supposed to care for her with a sprained ankle 4) Everything my mom said about freaking out when she sleeps through the night is true 5) Looks like I will be setting my alarm for 4 hour stretches in case she decides to pull this all-nighter again (per my pediatrician).
Have you had a similar experience where you freaked out when your baby slept longer than anticipated? If you haven't experienced it yet, let me warn you that you may have a mini-heart attack when you realize that the sun was waking you instead of his/her screams. When this happens, proceed with caution!
