So, DS hates purees. All of them. I have concluded he doesn't like the spoon being put in his mouth. He will eat anything in the mesh feeder, though. I wouldn't worry at all, but the pedi wants him to have cereal everyday for the iron. I've researched it a bit, and it sounds like the whole BF babies need iron thing might be overblown, but I wondered if anyone is dealing with the same thing. I have tried putting the cereal in the mesh feeder/mixing foods he likes with the oatmeal, etc. I've been focusing on putting iron rich foods in the mesh feeder, but it's hard to get meat to mash through it. Any tips?
Have you tried using different types of spoons? We started out with these kind of deep plastic spoons and then switched to the more shallow rubbery ones and DD liked those much better.
Or what about letting him feed himself? If you hand him the spoon will he put it in his mouth? Maybe he likes the mesh feeder better because it's more independent for him?

What about just giving large hunks of meat? BLW suggests (baby) fist size pieces. FWIW, I've given E hamburger and meatballs, and he's done great with them.

Dd used to do great with purées, and then she started really sucking at them. It seemed like she just didn't like being spoon fed because she would eat finger foods really well still. Then all of a sudden in the last couple of days she's starting to eat purées better again. I correlated it with her most recent leap, don't know if that's why or not. Has your ds always not likes them, or is it something new?
Also, I don't even give oatmeal very often anymore. I sometimes mix it with fruits in the morning - but rarely. And she gets meats with veggies for dinner. Maybe I'm too lax, but I'm just not that worried about the extra iron thing.
Dieting may be more effective than exercising in terms of loosing weight but it won't help you build muscle or boost your metabolism as much.
That being said I really need to start exercising more again!
I think both are important; but I did read somewhere that exercise is meant to off set or to help with the excessive eating. Toning and muscle are important, but what you eat really plays a big part in the weight.
Which is hard because... Oreos and pizza :/
well you're not going to get rid of your gut without burning calories but you can drop your excessive weight

My kid has only had meat once. Chicken purée. She hated it so we never tried again. That was two months ago. I have 3 jars of meat purées that we'll be trying this week, hopefully they'll go over better now that she's older.
She also hasn't really liked any fruits that she's tried. She LOVES veggies and oatmeal though!
Crap - I invited my dad and his loony GF over for dinner Saturday to celebrate father's day. I was secretly hoping he would say no, but he said yes immediately. I told H I will need ALL the wine Saturday night. My dad is a pill. He will likely show up 2 hours late Saturday, after he tries to cancel on me 15 times between now and Saturday. My dad is the flakiest of flakes. Trying to organize a get together with him is emotionally taxing for many reasons.

Dd doesn't LOVE fruits, but tolerates them occasionally. We usually do the meat mixed with veggies or chicken and apples and she loves those. I think she mostly loves the veggies though.
Random tip for those who aren't comfortable with BLW but want to introduce more solid food: Our pedi says that babies are ready for chunks of solid foods when they start picking small items up with two fingers rather than their whole hand. Like cheerio sized stuff. She said that the reflex to chew and swallow chunks safely develops around the same time as that ability. We aren't there yet (plus the kid still has zero teeth) but just thought I'd share.

I hate when people accept my invitations that I hope they decline! Maybe you can accept his offer to cancel, say that works better since something came up (?).

just make your own nice dinner and if he shows up good if he doesn't then MEH! Tasty dinner for you!

probably because pureed meat sounds TERRIBLE!
Yeah, the thought of it really grosses me out actually. I'm only trying it because her pedi said it would be good for her. Clearly I'm not trying very hard though.

Aww, im sorry. lol, My family is interesting to say the least. I feel like a terrible person for avoiding them but they really stress me out! I guess I have something to talk about in therapy tomorrow :/ haha

I think it is gross as well. I JUST bought some of the meats and I have not tried it yet.... We have been doing great on fruits and veggies lol

I'm in camp pureed meat sounds terrible, so we offer S "whole" meat. Salmon was a huge hit, and is great because it's flakey, so even if LO isn't great at "chewing" it sort of comes apart on its own. He's also had a few varieties of white fish, but I think salmon dominates as a favorite. He also loves beef in the form of meatloaf or taco filling (we have 96% or 99% lean organic grass fed beef, so I don't worry too much about what the cows had eaten). I don't really eat either of those, but he loves both . He also had chicken and lamb in the form of gyro meat.
My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.

Thanks everyone for the tips on purees. I might try different spoons. He puts the spoon in his mouth, but if there is purée on it, he spits it out. He's a little pill. We're done some BLW-style foods (I know, you can't do both BLW and purees) but I haven't figured out how to do meat safely. He choked last week on some paper (like finger sweep and vomiting choked) so I'm extra freaked out about choking. I'm planning to try ground beef crumbles this week to see what he does with that. He has a good pincer grasp, so maybe he is developing the ability to swallow small pieces.

kellrr, Do you stop feeding after he spits out? I noticed that DD does this for the first 2-3 spoons and then she eats it. I don't know if it takes her a minute to get used to the flavor, but she seems ok after a few bites.
I gave her some kiwi/apple/avocado I think the other day and she spit out the first couple bites then ate like half the jar.
Hey ladies! I've got nothing exciting to report. Just counting down until my 4 day weekend. I look like I have two black eyes because I'm so tired despite going to bed at 9 with only one easy wake up. And with the leap 6 I'm pretty sure DD isn't go to make Thursday easier. She may go to daycare for a couple hours..I feel bad doing that but a nap sounds great!

We try for 15-20 minutes before giving up. He clamps his mouth shut and smacks the spoon away. I usually manage to sneak some in when he laughs or babbles, which really pisses him off. I don't want food to be a battle, especially when he loves the mesh feeder. The kid eats everything, so I know it's not a flavor thing. I will say, though, that it has provided endless comic relief:

We do both BLW and purées (mostly be daycare offers purées) and DS has had no issues going back and forth.
So I just choked a little on my lunch and started coughing really hard. Apparently my kid thinks this is hilarious because she's looking at me and cracking up. Little stinker.
