Anyone tempted to break out the doppler yet?

I was going through my tub of maternity crap today and folded into it was my handy dandy 'ol Sonoline B. I keep looking at it now, like "not yet, not yet... you'll only get stressed out because it's too early" but I'm dying to try anyway. Going to try and wait at least another month, but really... who am I kidding?

If I had one I would be having a hard time not using it. I have been tempted to buy one but I am trying to take my own advice that I gave my SIL last year, about not getting one since it will just make you crazy when you can't find it. But having a 4 year old now, I think it would be fun for her to hear the hearbeat and make it more "real" to her since she doesn't fully understand how this all works.

I've also been very tempted to buy one - but I've decided against it (at least for now). My anxiety is out of control as it is, and I just know it would do more harm than good.

I didn't think I'd need/want one But after having our first ultrasound on Wednesday and SEEING but not getting to HEAR the baby's heartbeat... I just want to hear it!

I'm 9 weeks today and plan on using it this weekend. I can't remember when we used it for baby #1, but I think it was around now. I just remember it took about an hour to find the HB. The second time it got easier.

I used mine yesterday. I found the heartbeat within a minute or so. Last week it was hit or miss whether I could find it. During my NT scan on Wednesday, the tech told me that placenta was located at the back wall of my uterus. I'm thinking that's why I had a hard time finding the heart rate in the past. Have fun!

We broke down and got one. We tried at 8 weeks (I know still too early) and couldn't find it and again last night I'm 9w1d we finally picked it up after about 10 minutes of searching. It was our first time hearing it since in our last US we only got to see the heartbeat and not hear it...pretty amazing. I promised myself I wouldn't pick it up again for awhile. Hahaha you definitely have to be patient and move very slow. Don't get worried if you can't find it!

I've used mine a couple times starting at 9 weeks. Took a while to find it but now I'm an expert lol

I tried at 9 weeks with no luck.. I tried at 10 weeks with no luck.. I'll be 11 weeks Sunday and will be trying again soon lol

(I'm not worried though, u/s shows everything looks good and we confirmed the heart beat by u/s twice)

Yeah, cannot lie.... wrote this post, and then went right upstairs to get DH's hair gel (used all the sample stuff very quickly last time). Found the HB right away. Now I'm going to be addicted to doing it for the next 210 days. Better buy stock in Dep Hair Gel.

I bought one, but I haven't been successful yet. I have a tilted uterus and no patience. I heard it might be better if you have a full bladder, but that just means I have even less patience because on top of being frustrated, I will have to pee. I have promised myself not to try again until I am 12 weeks. Two more weeks!

I don't have one because I know I will stress too much over the heartbeat. I say wait until you are 12 weeks to check it out. At my 12 week ob appointment this week it took the mw a few minutes and lots of searching to find the heartbeat.

I have the angel sounds one. I tried at 10 WKs and couldn't find it, but my doc also couldn't find it at 11w5d.
So mine has stayed packed for awhile, but I'm 12 w today. I might break it out tonight instead of vegging with Netflix.

I really want to get one, but the fiance says no He think's it's an unnecessary expense since he's a certified paramedic and we have a fancy $270 stethoscope at home that he says will likely work better than the doppler anyway... Baaah, I'm gonna try this weekend with the stethoscope and see if I can hear anything...

My doc was able to find it at 9 weeks, (2 wks ago) so I ordered the doppler after that. I used it for the first time monday, and the first time it took me a long time to find it. Not gonna like I was getting pretty freaked out that I couldn't find it when I finally did.

I have one, and tried to find the HB at around 9 weeks, with no success. I'm going to wait until after my NT scan next week to try again. I'll be about 12 weeks.

Has anyone ever tried one of those Doppler apps? I'm pretty sure they are useless/a scam. All of the reviews are mixed. Just curious if anyone has used one.

I don't have the patience to wait until baby is big enough/positioned just right...and I also have massive anxiety and would drive myself crazy with it. Here's how it would go...I would listen in the morning, when I got home, after dinner, before I go to bed, if I woke up during the night...it would control my life.

I'm 12w6d today and I've been using mine since 8 weeks and change. It's kind of tedious to use and usually takes me a few minutes, but it's been REALLY helpful for me. I've been having stop/start brown (but occasionally red) spotting for about three weeks now, and I feel reassured by a nice normal heart rate.

I know it just adds to the anxiety for some women, but for me it's a godsend.

I wish I could but I am too anxious to have one of those in my house. I'd be lathered up with lube looking for a HB all day/every day.

I busted mine out for the first time at 8w4d and was able to find the heartbeat. I haven't tried it again since but probably will again this weekend since that will put me right at or just past the point where our first LO died, and I'm hoping that maybe passing that milestone will make me feel good.

Broke ours out last week (about 9 weeks). It took me about five minutes to find the HB and I knew exactly where to look and how. As a FTM, I wasn't so lucky so quickly so be careful that the anxiety doesn't get to you!
Anyway, we can find it now within a minute. It's fun to check every couple of days just to soothe your nerves. Definitely happy we have one.

I'm pretty sure that IF those things work, it probably wouldn't be until the last trimester that a microphone on a cell phone could pick it up. Definitely a waste of time and money right now.

I thought about it. But if it took a trained OB a good amount of time searching for baby who kept moving away (we'd hear 4 beats and a whole lot of noise and he had to go fish again) I'm pretty sure I'd struggle with it.

I've only seen them online but maybe someone knows of a place. Honestly, I thought I'd be using it all the time when we had DS but in reality we used it maybe once a week. Once my wife started feeling consistent movement at like 20 weeks I think, we stopped using it altogether and relied on movement as our reassurance. There was one time at 38 weeks when she hadn't felt the baby move for awhile that we pulled it out and used it. I was very happy to have it at that scary moment. You may be able to get one used cheaper.

Yes and yes. There are times that I know I am unmistakably hearing that fast little strong HB, but because of background noise the monitor will occasionally not pick up the BPM.
